is andy's office temp in Carnegie or is that permanent going forward....

Carnegie is one of the few building i've never walked thru/or been in

The President's Office has been permanently moved to Carnegie.  They remodeled the building and completely removed all the additions that were not original.

Looks like changes are coming for UND basketball/volleyball....

UND targeting Betty Engelstad Sioux Center for next athletics facility project

Quote

The home for UND basketball and volleyball may be next in line for a facility upgrade.

UND President Andrew Armacost told the Herald earlier this week the school is "actively looking at how to make such a project happen" at the Betty Engelstad Sioux Center. UND would like to add additional court space.

A bike bridge over the train tracks near the NE corner of Ray Richards would allow easy bike access to UND from the core of grand forks.  Could help with traffic/parking to some degree.  There would be a bike path from the ralph, following the coulee past the dorms, all the way to the Columbia mall.

Awesome! I hope it’s more than just adding a couple courts

What happened to the plans from a few years back that would've put atleast a practice court on I believe the north end taking up what is now the coaches and handicap parking I believe?

Also I may have missed it as I haven't read everything in the past, but with the removal of most of the international size rinks in college hockey, has there been or has anyone heard if they will shrink the 2nd sheet between the Betty and the Ralph to NHL size? I would expect if this happens the big part is in regards to the refrigerant changes that is making it very expensive or impossible to find parts to repair with what has likely been installed.

Add on to the north side and put a semi circle balcony over it

make betty with seating on 4 sides and retracable seating from row ___________ to the COURT.

flip the oly rink to 4 or 5 or whatever courts for practice...hockey doesn't need it anymore.

It’s fun to look back at some of the old basketball courts in ND, Many had balconies  for seating as the courts were in the community centers, some high schools had balconies on the ends, the bleachers were all cement.  Anyone see a court so small the free throw circle intersected the half court circle.
‘there has to be enough engineers out there that can figure this out.

My prediction - UND will get $$ from REA/Engelstad foundation (not exactly sure how that works) for the improvements at the Betty.  Tied to that will be a delay in the transfer of control of REA to UND for some number of years beyond the scheduled 2030 date.

You're either onto something or on something. ;)

When I was in High School our JV went and played at Strasburg against their varsity. The floor had a center line but then on each side they had another line which was used for over and back. You had to get across the center line in 10 seconds but then you could go back to the other line so you had room to run your offense. The free throw arch cut through the center circle. They were not used when we played but they had lines on the wall of one side that were about 3 feet high....apparently they used to be the out of bounds lines, so if the ball hit below the line it was still in play.

Most if not all of the fans were in a balcony overlooking the floor(they might have had 2-3 rows of bleachers on one side). I think they were ranked in the top 10 that year(Lost to Steele-Dawson to get to state i think) and their fans did not care that it was the Bismarck JV(it was Bismarck High as far as they were concerned). It didn't help that the guys on our team put on a dunk show in warmups and I don't think they had anyone who could dunk. They had 2-3 really good players who I knew from Basketball Camps and some "farmstrong" kids who were pretty physical. game was back and forth and we definitely did not get a favorable whistle as I think we had 4 guys foul out and we shot 6 or 8 free throws compared to their 35-40. At the end of the game, we did get a gift call which the crowd went crazy over and we snuck out with a 2 or 4 point win. Pretty crazy atmosphere and after the game as guys were getting ready to shower our coach came in and said, skip the showers, grab your !@#$ and lets get going. They had a few fans who let us know what they thought of us on the way to the bus. :0

Well I know the Steele Pirates played in state in 1982; was it that far back or even more?

1983. I think Steele made state that year as well. Strasburg actually got knocked out by Linton in the Districts that year.
