Mama Sue Posted January 3 Posted January 3 If it gets too much….the AD should step in. Don’t you think he should have some oversight anyway with a new coach and his first year as HC? Couldn’t the AD take over some admin tasks and let him build his coaching staff and team? Sounds too simple to happen. I want Schmidt to succeed, like we we all do! Quote

This was the agreement before the December 8th official announcement, hiring and presser. 1 Quote

If the AD were to make any adjustments, rather than micromanaging, it should be plainly increasing the salary pool so a quality DC candidate can be hired. But we’ll see how this HC/DC combo arrangement goes and go from there … Quote
The Sicatoka Posted January 4 Posted January 4 We wanted a fully engaged HC. Being HC and DC is fully engaged. Until it doesn’t work, don’t grouse. 2 Quote

Some skepticism is perhaps fair given uniqueness of this (and don’t say Mike Zimmer, that’s NFL and didn’t quite work out I’d say), but it could work. Uniqueness can be either really good or really bad. Time will tell. Quote
Nodak78 Posted January 4 Posted January 4 HC less detail on recruiting more position coaches on defense. OC and asst coach coaching TE observing offense when Eric is discussing adjustments on defense. 2025. Quote
HoopsFan03 Posted January 4 Posted January 4 Everyone relax, we will be just fine! And even if we don’t end up fine, Schmidt happens…. 4 Quote
homer Posted January 4 Posted January 4 Generally I would look for examples of this working in the past but we are entering a new age of college athletics. Recruiting coordinators and roster managers are going to be as/maybe more important than coordinators. Head coaches aren’t going to be able to manage rosters and coach. This is a time and a different approach may be welcomed. Eventually promote one of your young defensive positions coaches to coordinator when ready. 2 Quote
SiouxFan100 Posted January 4 Posted January 4 Means the defensive performance sits on one set of shoulders. No more guessing if a defensive call was the DC or HC. Quote

sioux24/7 Posted January 4 Posted January 4 Didn’t they say on the 360 podcast that we have the second highest assistant coaches pool? 1 Quote

Already increasing actually, and I agree, it will continue to do so. There are current and soon to be enacted opportunities for all “supporters” to contribute - why wait? The most frustrating area has been state appropriation and departmental allocation, especially when looking at how NDSU has been treated by Burgum, NDUS and the legislature, and now apparently Armstrong is an NDSU guy …. Nonetheless, there are signifiant private opportunities for UND football and they are being and will be capitalized on. More opportunities to come, stay tuned … Quote

UND1983 Posted January 5 Posted January 5 Seems that Landry made the correct decision. He realized how sad our program was in a matter of days Quote
Hans8891 Posted January 5 Posted January 5 Kelly Armstrong is not an NDSU guy. As Governor, he will need to support both, but Kelly is definitely a UND grad and UND guy. 3 Quote

There will be opportunities, hopefully very soon, to show if he indeed will support both athletic programs, although many would prefer he support his alma mater preferentially. As a reminder, it is difficult to just support both, as they do compete head-to-head. His predecessor was quite one-sided despite the outside sentiment of supporting both. We’ll see with 2025 Kelly … I’m hopeful, although the Lets. Go. Bison. look is a bad start. 1 Quote
AJS Posted January 5 Posted January 5 Two other important pieces from latest 360 pod. They did seem confused over Covid year as they incorrectly stated that it was done. Kelly did make it sound that outside of Anderson, nobody else would be back from that class. IF true, disappointing and first “miss” of offseason. Didn’t have to be many, three or four key guys can make a difference. Ex: Smith back at RB. Also, he expects a lot of movement after Spring Ball. Which many here have been saying. Quote
