I googled it. English teacher in GF it appears. I’ll do my best to correct everyone’s grammar the next 7 days in his honor. After that, it’s on to cheering for any other team still playing as the Hawks season is done.

He taught fr English at Grand Forks Central. He was the man. Not a joke at all. Absolute grammar Nazi but the best most passionate teacher I’ve ever had at any level of school.

If only he could see how well we are all putting our grammar to such great use typing with our thumbs.

So if USD was where we are, or even less, about 3-4 years ago what did they do with their roster to build it up to a top five school in three years? I just took a quick look at their 2024 roster and it seems they have a good mix of their own recruits and some portal guys. Getting the QB dropdown from Minnesota was key, but It does seem like we bring in fewer portal guys every year - not sure if that is by design or if they are choosing to go elsewhere. I do see the value of building our own foundation, but USD seems to have found the right mix. I'm also confident that Vermillion does not have that much more to offer than Grand Forks.

Remember when Wesley Eliodor transferred from USD thinking it would be an upgrade, instead they beat us and had a better year. We managed to get Wesley 20 catches for the year. Good times

At QB they first got Streveler drop down from MN (a number years ago).  He was MVFC Off  POY in 2017 and runner up for Walter Payton award.  Now have Bowman from Iowa State.

We don't seem to get many FBS drop downs at all

Geography doing us no favors. The closest FBS school is 315 miles (Minnesota, obviously), then the next closest 3 are all over 500 miles away (Iowa State, Nebraska, Wisconsin).  Maybe the Blue Bombers having a run of recent success will increase the football talent pool in the Winnipeg area, where we'd have geography working on our side.

South Dakota (Vermillion) has the biggest advantage of the Dakota schools as far as proximity to FBS schools:

Nebraska (Lincoln) - 173 miles

Ames (Iowa State) - 220 miles

Minnesota (Minneapolis), Kansas (Lawrence), Kansas State (Manhattan), and Iowa (Iowa CIty) - all less than 350 miles

Makes sense.  Have heard a high major basketball coach talk about how difficult it can be to get talented kids to come to their school when they have to pass so many other schools to get there.  They said their choice is to either take marginally talented players or take risks on talented players who are more likely to fail school or get in trouble otherwise.

Great synopsis - wonder what the problem is at UND then?

USD's HC brought in a key senior FB staffer from SDSU to learn from.

If ya can't beat 'em, ... copy their blueprint.

Yeah and then deleted any existence of his time at UND off his socials, at least instagram. I can’t find his account anymore so maybe he brought it back.

So if I'm reading this correctly this team by your estimation has 350 deficiencies and this team's QB play doesn't crack the top 40 in its deficiencies??

#greatstory

Well I might have taken a few liberties to make my point...haha!

That said...how many players have seen the field on defense this year?  How many coaches have been involved in the defensive gameplan?  How many support staff have assisted the defensive coaches in film sessions and what not?  That combined number might be close to 40!

There's quite a bit more to this story than has been discussed on this site.

The whole football decline started when ya'll stopped doing that "lookie like" thing on the opposing teams....  now the players are stuck with the shiddy griddy or as it's known at the nursing home, how to shake a turd down your pant leg.

Maybe a new Help Bubba....   I  hear good things about weighted blankets.

No one shakes a turd  down their leg at the NH anymore. Everyone wears depends.

Bubba the trendsetter, or Bubba behind the times... again. Coin flip.

Almost everyone who left last year went FBS. McNaboe on a roll tonight for Ohio. Ventrelli in CFL. A couple quit football at the top of their game. Talent is not the problem. Is the talent all on the field and playing and being put in the best position? Is rushing 1 or 2 guys on defense a good strategy? Is being able to throw a football important at certain positions? McNaboe just had another tackle.

The UND FB 360 guys yesterday reviewed "the tight loss to South Dakota". What game were they watching? There's absolutely nothing tight about it.

But they also noted that UND's comeback came when the game was a 21 point deficit as though USD had pumped the brakes a bit.

The best outcome would be if Und wouldn’t have to fire bubba …just transfer him over to the alumni center.

i was told by a very reliable source that they tried to do this last year, and Bubba declined

Is Shannon voicing his opinion anywhere these days? Maybe he is key to getting the program over this mess.
