UND1983
Both Bubba's kids played at RR, I highly doubt that is the issue. The new coaches may not have reached out enough to this point, yep. That connection is now at SDSU

Popular Post nodak651
I think UND has the potential to surprise a lot of people next year. Even if the O-line isn't as good, I think the play calling will be better. If we actually run the ball when we are able to, instead of deciding to kill drives by passing on first down, we may see a more consistent offense, and that would help out the Defense as well. We had the talent to beat both Sac and USD. We were up 10 on USD at half, and we stopped USD's first drive in the 3rd Quarter with an interception in our own end zone. What did we do with that, in our first drive of the 3rd quarter? See below. USD then marches down the field again, and this time, they convert for a TD. Now up 10-7 UND gets the ball with 6:50 remaining in the third and they do this: Why pass it on first down from the USD 24 while winning, late in the 3rd, on the road? This drive is the epitome of UND's season last year. Next drive, UND holds USD to a 3 and out. What does UND do? No, even though UND is moving the ball on the ground well, they don't exploit it. Instead, they screw up the next drive with an incomplete pass to Quincy Vaugn on 2nd down, after a 6 yard rush on 1st down. In the 4th Quarter, we handed the ball off to our running backs a total of 1 time. This is the yardage we gained for every running play by a RB in the 2nd half: 3, 4, 19, 4, 6, 3, 7. The shortest rush was 3 yards. With that consistency, we still managed to give up a 10 point first half lead. Scored nothing in the 2nd half. Maybe I'm wrong - I never played FB and I don't truly know the game like others here, but I've gotta think that a change at OC may more than make up for the guys we lost on the O-Line this year. Thoughts?

Popular Post forksandspoons
Random Thursday thoughts: I have seen a couple of clips of Jerry throwing and it seems like he can really sling it. Looking ahead, I know UND has a ton of questions on the o-line, at QB, and defensively. However, if they can figure out a way to get their run blocking down early, I am not ruling out a win against Montana (I woke up optimistic today). Iowa State sounds like it will be a really solid team, so whoever the QB is for UND that game would absolutely need to play out of his mind. Given the history in FBS games and how nervous (minus Nebraska) UND typically looks in those games, I think it will be a long afternoon. Yes, Montana is coming off a fantastic season. However, they lose one of the most electric QBs in the country and will have questions at QB as I believe their back-up transferred out as well. Not easy for a new QB to come to the Alerus. He will, however, have a TON of weapons, but will have a new center and tackle. The center was 2nd team all Big Sky and started a ton of games in his career. The tackle was a captain and all conference honorable mention. They had an awesome defense last season, but appear to lose a ton of guys on that side of the ball. Obviously, they'll re-load both offensively and defensively. All I am saying is feed Z and Isaiah + Alerus Center magic and you never know!
sioux24/7
That night game against Montana is going to be rowdy. If UND can get the crowd going early, could be in for a real fun game.

It would set the ton for the season, but we set the tone for the 2nd half of last season against NDSU and then crapped the bed. We don't do consistency very well. We may lose some other game we shouldn't, but I think the Montana game is a game we need.....for the season....and just overall morale of everything UND football related. After this past off season, we need a boost and the Montana game could do it!
shep
Who are the new guys on D that gives you hope? or which D players from last year will remarkably step up?
F'n Hawks
17 hours ago, shep said: Who are the new guys on D that gives you hope? or which D players from last year will remarkably step up? They really need Rucker to take another big step at OLB. In the last 360 article they were high on the Upper Iowa OLB transfer (John Butsch). They need this position to be significantly better than it has been the last couple of years. Think they are also banking on Erkman being a stud at safety, and need one of the transfers from West Virginia State to step up there as well. DL worries me. Again, will need a couple of the transfers and redshirt freshman from last year to step up. I’m trying to be optimistic about the defense next year but I have had trouble doing so considering how they’ve been the last couple of years. Considering he’s technically a defensive coach, Bubba and his staff needs to get this side figured out. They will be relying on some D2’s/Juco/NAIA players making the jump up so it will be interesting to see how it plays out.
