7 wins assumes wins on the road against UNI and Southern Illinois. Not sure if I see that happening. Sure they both may be awful next year, but so were Youngstown State and Indiana State this year.

And both will find a FBS dropdown or two that will be impact players. Unless UND does the same we will fall farther behind the league and instead of Bubba stepping down leaving team better than he got it, he may have it in the same state as he inherited it.

I just see our better players entering the portal along with better commits decommiting - especially if bubba remains after this year.
we really need some impactful portal recruitment - well we really need a lot of things with no hope of getting significantly better - especially if coaches stay the same

I guess I feel the sky is falling

What is his opinion on sports programs? Necessary evil? Money pit?

He understands the benefits of intercollegiate athletic as well as the challenges. He wants our programs to be successful and sees how it can bring alumni and other supporters to campus and alumni gatherings at athletic events.

Next year I'm seeing 7-5 with loses to K State, Montana, NDSU, SDSU, and USD.   We have Youngstown and Indiana State at home so Bubba will pull out close wins there.   Going 7-5 with a possible playoff bid and loss on the road will be all the justification Chaves needs.

Bubba?

Eddie George just took Tennessee State to their first playoff birth in many, many, years.

It took some time but did an excellent job of rebuilding the program that was all but dead (with truly little resources).

We need a similar type of coach.

Another suggestion in the hat: Brent Bolte at Bemidji State.

I've heard good things about him but.......

Wyoming is 2-9 this year with one game remaining against 8-3 Wash St and are 17 point dogs.  Probably end 2-10

And yet here we are with no changes in sight.

Actually there have been lots of changes. The campaign to raise $500 million has significant funds earmarked for athletics. Facilities have significant additions and improvements. That was one of the challenges we had when he arrived.

All Bemidji does is quietly win games and factor into the D2 playoffs.

Bemidji does not spend the money or have the resources relative to the rest of the conference that UND has in the MVFC.  Their budget is about 75% (or less) of the top NSIC programs (according to a quick google search).

The coaches don't seem to care...they just do their jobs and win football games consistently.

If I lived in Grand Forks next fall I'd probably make a few trips east.  It's a cool experience watching games on the shore of the lake (even if the stadium isn't very nice).

30 years too late to the d1 scene (especially fcs football) but kinda miss the old d2 days of basketball every friday and saturday eve...(doubleheaders) at the hyslop....didn't have to worry if memorial fields was better than the dakota dome or dakotah field....tight regioanl footprint....

but yeah cool setting right on the lake in bemidji.....nsic is a nice d2 conference with what looks like long term stability.

maybe und should go big fish in small approach and say f this to d1 and bring on duluth and scsu in just more than hockey????!!!!!!
