Living in this Echo Chamber it would be easy to assume that. I've been out among other groups. Word on the street I hear is our facilities are top notch, our focus on kids getting an education is right on, our support is good, for big games great, our coaching staff is respected.

For kids that want to be business majors, Nistler is second to none.

What is the one thing he brings to the table that will help UND make the next step in winning away games and closing the gap? Not including past coaching experience.

For those who remember his past coaching experiences at UND, was he someone the players would run through walls for?

DC - Curt Weise

Don't you think Schmidt would pick someone who's coached on the defensive side of the ball?  On Weise's bio, he only been on the offensive side.

Say it is his dream job - if he's successful at it, that means good things for UND football for a long time.

This was a sub-plot to a story that I broke Sunday morning tracking a mysterious aircraft from Duluth.

Yeah, I get that.  Wasn't sure if this was part of the joke or what.

This was a team that got excited for a bad griddy after an OT win as a 4 score home fav.

That would be a mistake. You look at the current staff and figure out who the players respect and will play for. You need to know who are key recruiters. You interview them to see who can best help with the tradition.

There are 3 or 4 on the current staff who seem to be getting the job done.

QB situation was Danny, then Freuchte and Bubba.  Danny then  Freuchte obviously didn’t see what some here have read about the other QB’s. I still can’t understand how we didn’t develop Feeney in the time he was here and that is more our OC’s.
Did you compare the incoming QB recruit with the NDSU recruit?   There is a big difference.
I agree that he has all the makings of a star in the making for reasons you cited.

Ever thought it is on Feeney.  The player need to be willing to put in the work.

I don't buy into the theory that not moving up is necessarily a bad thing.  You don't have to look beyond Stig at SDSU (26 years) and Nielson (9) at USD to see coaches with longer tenures having big success at the FCS level.

Let’s pump the breaks on Nielson til he can actually maintain. He’s struggled to stack good seasons consecutively.

Maybe this was part of the Flight 19 mystery inside the Bermuda Triangle that extends to the Great Lakes triangle!   Were there 5 airplanes flying in a formation?

For assistants it's it a different story, which is what I was referring to

Schmidt has seen first hand the infrastructure and what is needed to win at the highest level of college football. He also has first hand knowledge of how things were run at UND. Safe bet he's picked up a few things that will pay big dividends and I would expect some visible changes on how things are handled with current players and recruits.

Excellent point. I certainly hope he has thought this all out, and I’m sure he has, and we can see it rolled out sooner rather than later and pay dividends early. Need to enhance a lot of things, from recruiting against rivals (NDSU and SDSU) to developing players; even transfer portal and NIL utilization. I think we all as UND supporters are hoping and praying those five years at the FBS level for Eric will make all the difference.

General Information for all - The Collective is set up and UND Football has a new HC willing/wanting/advocating to use it.  1. need to not lose players/starters in the portal 2. need to find some special players.  Both take money, and sometimes not as much as you'd think.  You can dedicate to football only or do up to 2 sports.  I have been talking about this for years and it is now established, legit, already used to keep several athletes at UND.

And donations are being matched until December 15th so you can double your donation

Just curious for those in the know, are these all common practices at the other Dakota schools.   It seems to me like all of these things seem like they should be a given for any program wishing to be top tier.   I would hope that every year staffs are in touch with FBS schools, or at least are monitoring best practices of those programs that are very successful.   At the least we should be trying to mimic everything NDSU and SDSU are doing year in and year out.
