Two sides of every coin.  These are the inherent risks with this hire.

There's risk with any hire of course.  Wonder what percentage of fbs head coaches are fired within 4 years (some quick Googling put it around 30%).

It’s almost like success drove their opinions.

Cleveland fans probably weren’t too high on Bill Belichick.

Philly fans claimed Andy Reid was too old, couldn’t relate to players, looked half asleep on the sidelines and couldn’t coach.

Interesting to read this article now, written nearly a year and half ago: https://www.si.com/college/washington/football/schmidt-has-been-ideal-defensive-fit-for-huskies

“Should his mentor, Fighting Hawks coach Bubba Schweigert, now 60, ever decide he'd rather be ice fishing in Fargo or running with bison in Bismarck, the FCS school would probably offer Schmidt nothing short of his own Mount Rushmore-like profile across the Dakota state line in the North Dakota Badlands.”

They predicted this one … good stuff.

if danny doesn't leave after last year....is he HC right now?

You've got to believe whether that would have been the case or not, that it has got to be on his mind these days.

Danny is going to end up more than fine.

No doubt, but having an opportunity to be the head coach of your Alma Mater doesn't come along too often.  Will be interested to see his progression, and where his first head coaching job will come.

It's almost like having great players makes one a better coach.

My son-in-law was with the Eagles his last year. Said Andy was a great coach. However, you need talent and depth especially at NFL and college levels.

I think great players allow coaches more options to be successful.

Reid did take the Eagles to one Super Bowl.

Schmidt may have some players from out west that will enter the portal on his radar

He should be talking to DeBoer to see if any of their portal guys are options.

Yup. Good coaches don’t always win. Owners and fans only look at Wins and losses. Hard to be patient.

Bama has 10 guys in the portal already. Would think between Washington, San Diego State, or even Bama, there’d be a couple of guys that are looking for playing time. Hopefully, those guys are on the DL, LB, or WR. One can hope!

I'm really disappointed. This whole tracking tail numbers thing turned out to be a farce. I spent hours and hours on that and I could have just as well learned how to use an abacus for all the good it did me.

I do like the Schmidt higher though.  He has to have learned a lot from DeBoer and were going to find out if the DeBoer coaching tree is going to produce.
