CMSioux Posted February 12, 2019 Posted February 12, 2019 Easy for Mike to spend and prioritize UND's money. Having a DI WH program that averages 200 fans a game and seldom made the playoffs did not contribute to having a premiere DI hockey program. UND is in full compliance with Title IX. 3 Quote
cberkas Posted February 12, 2019 Posted February 12, 2019 I never hear about Olympians from other schools as much as I hear about UND and Olympians for women’s hockey. Quote

Sorry DU and Michigan, since you never had it, you are in the same boat... despite having 17 national championships between you. Schools like RIT, Mercyhurst, and Robert Morris obviously have more of a chance than schools like UND, Denver, and Michigan because they have both men's and women's hockey!! 1 Quote
Siouxperfan7 Posted February 12, 2019 Posted February 12, 2019 "Something's clearly missing from the front porch of North Dakota campuses: equal opportunity for women athletes. Both universities have programs for women, of course, but the marquee programs are for men. Women don't play collegiate football, and UND killed its women's hockey program two years ago as part of a cost-saving move." Not sure what Jacobs is implying here. Is he saying that there are Title IX violations at BOTH UND and NDSU? Also, is he saying that because women's sports are not "marquee programs" for the university, that women don't have equal opportunity?!! Quote

Cratter Posted February 12, 2019 Posted February 12, 2019 Did Jacobs have a word count he needed to hit? Guy threw two different articles together. "Rewrite State Constitution. Remove/Privatize Colleges. Budget not generous to higher ed. Deans cutting programs still." to "UND cut its marquee womens sport." Quote

Women’s Hockey never had the (paid)attendance that Volleyball or basketball gets. I think the women of those two sports would have something to say about hockey being the marquee women’s sport at UND. 3 Quote

Both programs let Champions club members in for Free with basically same attendance. Women's hockey needed to go based on total cost. Quote

Volleyball - 17,433 (16 matches) - Avg. 1,090 http://fs.ncaa.org/Docs/stats/w_volleyball_RB/2017/Attend.pdf Women's Ice Hockey - 15,344 (19 games) - Avg. 807 http://fs.ncaa.org/Docs/stats/w_icehockey_rb/2018/attend.pdf Quote

Comparing apples to apples it would be about 912/game for WIH. About 20% higher. Not sure you could call volleyball the marquee women sport. Also Volleyball attendance for this season is about 100/fan per game less this year then 2016. Quote

Like I said you the pure not cost of WIH vs almost any other sport was reason for it to be cut. Quote
