But doves don't have hooked beaks. And yeah, the ND shows up when you know it's North Dakota but then you can't unsee it. Don't like what we have? Make something better. The Paw is USD's primary logo and has strong support. That will be around for a very long time. This new thing is the secondary logo replacing the coyote standing on top of the words South Dakota. And why didn't UND lean into its history and promote successful areas of the school. Just one example could have been the aviation program. I remember numerous name recommendations in the area. If I am recalling correctly, there was a set of criteria that had to be met for names that got forwarded to the voting phase. One of the criteria was that it had to be unique to North Dakota. Had they followed the criteria, Hawks would have never made it. For my part, I still advocate for Northern Pike. It is the state fish. There are no major college teams with a fish as a mascot or logo. It is easily shortened to "Northerns" or "Pike". The logo opportunities are excellent. Etc.
