In the April 25 email, Kennedy includes quotes from men's basketball coach Brian Jones, women's basketball coach Travis Brewster, volleyball coach Mark Pryor, UND Licensing Coordinator Breanna Linert and others in support of a Fighting Hawks logo at center court.

"I am in favor of our new logo being on the floor in the Betty simply for the fact that it is our logo," Jones was quoted as saying. "To keep it really simple, it is who we are now. We need to turn the page and be a united front and all look the same."

Pryor added: "There is not one player on our roster anymore who has played for UND when we had no nickname, much less when we were the Fighting Sioux. Two NCAA tournaments later, we are absolutely the Fighting Hawks; we are damn proud of that, and it's time to move on."

Remind me again why the football team thinks it only needs the new logo on ONE side of their helmets...

It's very simple:  It is who basketball and volleyball are.  It's not who hockey is.  I don't know how else to explain it, Darell.

Given the number of “Hawks” in college hockey, I’m 100% on-board with being North Dakota Hockey.  I still get confused as to whether it’s RedHawks, Redhawks, or Red Hawks.  Same with RiverHawks, Riverhawks, or River Hawks.

Fighting Hawks is obviously better as two words, which definitely helps, but we’re still 1 of 3 prominent “Hawks” in a pool of about 60 team names.

New makes it sound like they were replacing old ones. More accurately, the Betty finally got video replay boards after not having them the first 12 years it was open.

Yeah basketball got royally screwed with the Betty. They should boycott and go back to the Hyslop!

They actually should but that's a completely separate topic.

Interesting that people think a decade plus for the 3rd, 4th and 5th most popular programs on campus not having any sort of video or replay board is no big deal but don't bat an eye to replace 7 year old boards at a cost of 6-7x as much. No ones arguing MIH place in the hierarchy but the funds UND pays the REA is what pays/paid for the Betty. There hasn't been much for investment in it since it was built outside of the video board a dozen years later.

Chuck Wolfe (Minot) (50 - 53 UND)  Minneapolis Lakers 53

Jon Haaven (Mcintosh, MN)   (55, 56, 57 ND) 1957 drafted Minneapolis Lakers

Phil Jackson (Williston) (65, 66, & 67 UND)   NBA NY Nicks

Chris Fahrbach (Menasha, WI) (76-79 UND) 1979 drafted Milwakee Bucks

Dan Clausen (Australia) (80, 81, 82 UND)   professional career in Turkey and Australia.

Now Herman Watesek played in an older building, what that the Armory where ROTC  is now?

Don’t know, the football team disrespected the University by not putting it on their helmet.

That doesn't answer the question but it would have presented the exact same issue. The logo was on the jersey and they have been wearing helmets with the interlocking ND decades before any iterations of the logo showed up, all of which had a specific direction they faced outside of Sammy Sioux.
