Appears it was set up that way so the entire AD would contribute towards the Betty bonds.

REA runs the UND ticket office correct?  Pays the salaries of those people, marketing, staffing, etc.

They initially get 100%. Later give AD 48% of all sports ticket sales. They also take care of other financial concerns. The ticket money stays within UND and The Ralph.

Correct, however UND paid them $247,000 last year for that along with an additional $1.1 million in other expenses, on top of the ticket revenue split.

Perhaps that $1.1 million is for the intramural sports and classes held in the REA?

RE Arena, Inc. expensed $1.1 million to UND for utilities, maintenance staff, phone service and other expenses.

So whatever that includes I guess?

Rumor has it, UND is going to take another dorm offline this summer because of lack of on campus students.

If you haven't driven by NDSU's new $40 million dorm that is currently under construction, it's quite the massive building.

Some of NDSU's existing housing makes Johnstone/Fulton/Smith look like the Ritz. Don't be surprised when some of that, especially the stuff on valuable ground (say near their union and new STEM building), becomes "available" shortly after the new facility comes online.

UND is paving a parking lot that was gravel, used by Med School and then also for parking for hockey games.

But in fairness to the trees, barring some horrible latent disease or imminent threat of hazard by falling limbs, it is an embarrassingly lazy way to re-pave a parking lot. How hard would it have been to reconstruct the lot and retain the natural break with the mature trees shading pedestrians and offering some aesthetic benefits? Does the U not wish to provide safe transit for walkers to and from the old med school?

I've read that they're ash trees.  Not sure how imminent it is, but ash trees are often being replaced when convenient in anticipation of the emerald ash borer coming over from Minnesota.

Don't laugh too hard, but some campuses view trees in parking areas as a security risk. They provide hiding places and blind spots for security cameras.
