siouxweet Posted April 1, 2013 Posted April 1, 2013 all antics aside, he was a very good coach. Quote
fightingsioux4life Posted April 1, 2013 Posted April 1, 2013 19 years is a long time to be doing a job like this; can't blame him for wanting a change of scenery. Good luck to him. Quote
MafiaMan Posted April 1, 2013 Posted April 1, 2013 I was going to post a new thread regarding coaching vacancies...but, nevermind, this will do nicely. Alaska-Anchorage and now Denver both have coaching openings. One a primo college hockey job, the other not-so-much. Anyone have any speculation on who might get an interview or job? Post EDITED after SiouxScore corrected me below. Quote
SiouxScore Posted April 1, 2013 Posted April 1, 2013 I was going to post a new thread regarding coaching vacancies...but, nevermind, this will do nicely. Alaska-Anchorage, Boston University, and now Denver all have coaching openings. Two of those three are primo college hockey jobs. Anyone have any speculation on who might get an interview or job? I think Boston U gets on the horn with Norm Bazin 15 minutes after UMass-Lowell's season ends. I'm sure he'll listen to their schpeel, but as a UML alum, I think he'll stay put right where he is. BU has already named David Quinn as head coach. Quote

NOCO SIOUX Posted April 1, 2013 Posted April 1, 2013 http://www.9news.com/news/article/327790/339/DUs-hockey-coach-resigns Here is the article from the local Denver Station. Quote
MafiaMan Posted April 1, 2013 Posted April 1, 2013 BU has already named David Quinn as head coach. Good grief, faulty internet connection when I was in Dickinson for a week...my bad! Quote
gfhockey Posted April 1, 2013 Posted April 1, 2013 So our coach gets a longer leash then gwoz when he has two rings.... may i ask why? Quote
fightingsioux4life Posted April 1, 2013 Posted April 1, 2013 So our coach gets a longer leash then gwoz when he has two rings.... may i ask why? I am thinking it was a dispute over money and contract terms, not on-ice performance. But I could be wrong about that. Office politics sometimes trumps winning games and championships. Stupid, but a fact of life. Quote
Big A HG Posted April 1, 2013 Posted April 1, 2013 Who will run the WCHA Officiating offices in Denver now? Quote
jodcon Posted April 1, 2013 Posted April 1, 2013 They were talking contract extension recently so I think something must have went south regarding money or power. Must have been major differences for him to walk. Quote
MafiaMan Posted April 1, 2013 Posted April 1, 2013 So our coach gets a longer leash then gwoz when he has two rings.... may i ask why? Pretty speculative considering the announcement was brief. You're assuming this was performance-related? 2 Quote
tnt Posted April 1, 2013 Posted April 1, 2013 Wonder if any of their recruits were looking to specifically play for Gwoz. Will be interesting if any recruits bolt for Major Junior or elsewhere if they haven't signed a LOI. Quote

CMSioux Posted April 1, 2013 Posted April 1, 2013 Before I waste time digging into this - It is April 1st. Quote
Big A HG Posted April 1, 2013 Posted April 1, 2013 I wonder who becomes the next Principal at Denver now. Quote
siouxkid12 Posted April 1, 2013 Posted April 1, 2013 Before I waste time digging into this - It is April 1st. i highly doubt any news affiliate is going to risk their reputation with a stupid april fools day joke Quote
MafiaMan Posted April 1, 2013 Posted April 1, 2013 Before I waste time digging into this - It is April 1st. This would be a pretty big joke then since The Denver Post, USCHO, and other blogs are absolutely blowing up with this news right now. Quote
Dave Berger Posted April 1, 2013 Posted April 1, 2013 So in the first year of the NCHC, (and assuming no one else leaves), we'll have: Enrico Blasi, 15th season at Miami (0 national titles) Scott Owens, 15th season at Colorado College (0 national titles) Scott Sandelin, 11th season at Minnesota-Duluth (1 national title) Dave Hakstol, 10th season at North Dakota (0 national titles) Bob Motzko, 8th season at St. Cloud State (possibly 1 national title...) Dean Blais, 4th season at Nebraska-Omaha (0 national titles, but 2 at UND) Andy Murray, 3rd season at Western Michigan (0 national titles) and someone new at Denver. Dave Quote
siouxjoy Posted April 1, 2013 Posted April 1, 2013 http://www.denverpos...-coach-after-19 Mike Chambers is now saying he was terminated. Wow. From the above article: He and his agent began working with the school on an extension in 2009. Do most coaches have agents? Quote
NorthDakotaHockey Posted April 1, 2013 Posted April 1, 2013 I'll miss George. Sounds like he overplayed his hand. He is great for the sport, and would have been great for the NCHC. It's a sad day. Kinda like when Judd Heathcote left MSU . . . . Quote
sagard Posted April 1, 2013 Posted April 1, 2013 I'd say Eaves and whoever is at MichSt. are now officially on notice. Assuming this is true. Quote
