Looks like Yon was tendered by Fargo.

Thats good for him....

I hope he figures things out at the ushl level.

After initially being wowed by his shot in bismarck I have to say his play was dramatically short of expectations.

Unless he was working through some type of injury to his hips id say he was downright lazy for the bobcats... floated on blue line waiting for the play to spring him but put very little effort into the action.....defensively a near non factor when he was on the ice.

Hope he finds a drive in Fargo.

Needs to watch a lot of what Parise puts into his ice times.

Could be a lot of things that contributed to it my best guess would be he played a very long season for the 1st time in his career. He went pretty much straight from playing in a huge high school state tournament with guys he has played with for years to some NAHL team where he only knows a couple guys and didn't have much time for adjustment at all. Watching his high school games he played a lot of minutes and didn't do a whole lot in the defensive end but I think that was more to conserve energy when he could. He made the plays he needed to defensively but will need to improve some there and I think he will. Yon is a player who is best offensively and really when he has the puck on his stick. 1 or 2 years in the USHL and he should be ready to play at UND, even if he doesn't become great defensively in the USHL as long as he can at least be average his pure goal scoring ability should make up for some of it.

From Fargoforce.com:

The Fargo Force have acquired a tender and the first pick of the third round in Phase 1 of the 2014 USHL Draft via a trade with the new expansion team in the league, the Bloomington Thunder. In exchange, the Force has traded defenseman Butrus Ghafari along with affiliate players, forward Ethan Spaxman and defenseman Jacob Slaker.

With the tender pickup from Bloomington, the Force has tendered forward Zach Yon from Roseau High School. Yon just completed his senior season where he led the team in scoring, posting 69 points in 25 games played with 33 goals and 36 assists. The 69 points put him 8th overall in scoring in the state of Minnesota. He also served as the Co-Captain his senior season and was named one of the top ten finalists for the 2014 Minnesota Minute Men Mr. Hockey Award. Zach is committed to the University of North Dakota.

Any player who is tendered will be on their respective teamsā€™ roster next season and play at least 55% of their teamsā€™ regular season games.

The 2014 USHL Draft begins May 5 at 5 PM. The Force hold the first pick in each round. Fans can watch the draft picks live on USHL.com or by following the Force on Twitter. A draft recap will be available on the official Fargo Force website, Facebook and Twitter following the completion of all rounds.

Bloomington goes from a Southern Professional Hockey League team to a USHL team with no name change, Good move for the owners. Interesting article on the expansion teams. http://web.ushl.com/news.php?news_id=2450

What does "signing a tender" mean? Are these kids that weren't drafted and then were signed a year later? Or what's the difference/process? Thanks.

A tender is like a free agent signing. They are players that haven't been drafted that a team decides they'd rather not take the chance they would be available when they would be drafting, so they get the player to sign a tender. I've heard that if a team tenders a player they give up a first round draft pick, but not sure on the complete process. Most tenders I've seen are younger players in their first year of USHL draft eligibility.

Good explanation. In this case, the Force traded an existing player and rights to a couple others for a tender held by the expansion team, so they didn't give up a draft pick. Since the tender is open, it's almost like trading for "a player to be named later".

They also mentioned on the sports last night that if a player signs a tender he must play in 55% of a teams games or something like that. The Force must not of had to give up their 1st round draft pick to tender Yon though as they took Kyle Sylvester of Warroad with their 1st round pick.

They traded away a player and two players they have the rights too, maybe even a draft pick, to keep there first round pick

There were two different types of tenders this year:

Futures tender--These were for players born in 1998. Any team can sign up to two Futures tenders, and have to give up a draft choice in the top two rounds to do so. The player is they sign is automatically on the team and has to dress in 50% of his teams' games or that team loses his rights.

Expansion tender-Madison and Bloomington each got five tenders to start their team prior to the draft. Those players aren't necessarily guaranteed a spot, nor is there any provision for how much they have to play. Bloomington traded one of their five to Fargo for Zach Yon.
