Love the way it ends:  “There’s one addition left on the back end. UND is likely to fill that spot with a freshman.”

I’ve always had the feeling they are going to land two of the big fish. The article mentioned DuPont and Rudolf as the remaining WHL superstars. One more to go!

Carels has been rumored for so long, glad to see it finally come to fruition. 
Really young but stacked d-corps. Only going to get younger with another FR. Will be interesting to see who Bryn can get for that final piece.

This draft is going to be a fun one to watch for a UND fan with Verhoeff and Carels expecting to go high.  Then it will be interesting to see where guys like MacKenzie, Williams and Klimpke fit in.  So many great players with guys from non traditional countries, that just getting drafted now feels more of a feather in your cap than it was years ago.

Then who are we looking at for the final piece?

If it's not one of the big boys DuPont or Rudolph, I'd guess it's a relatively unknown WHL guy like their Ollie last forward spot selection last year.

Would have been nice to get an older player like Carter Sotheran if that is the direction they are going, but he committed to Omaha.  Maybe a guy like Dumanski would be in the mix.  With the youth of the blue line, don’t know if you go with a true freshman age player, in case injuries crop up, plus they will probably have to play against Clarkson after New Year.

Dumanski only follows UND hockey and Carels commented “see you soon” on his latest instagram post saying goodbye to PG a couple of days ago. Would be a little surprised if it wasn’t him.

Seems likely. Looks like he wore the “C” last season so he probably fits the mold the coaches are after.

Love Dumanski as an 8th defenseman. Old, experienced player with leadership qualities. If he's the guy though, we will need to turn our attention to finding some RHD for the 2027-2028 season and beyond. I expect only Lindberg will be back among RHD currently on the roster and our only RHD commit is Zaide Penner, who is still a few years away. Brock Cripps might be a name to watch as a potential target

It's good to see someone pop back up from getting boarded and make the guy pay the piper rather than feign injury. At the same time, the lack of fighting in college hockey is for the best in my opinion.

Folks in Prince George are hoping that Carles returns to junior next season depending on who picks him. Makes me a little nervous 😅

I’d say there’s a 1% chance he’s playing for PG next season. 
Just like the questions that the PG media asked right after their season ended, they’re putting him on the spot and framing the questions to try to get him to say he’s coming back. 
He'll be at UND this fall, I am pretty darn certain.

Yeah I'd say he's definitely just not trying to hurt any feelings on the situation. Think alot of these reporters are either clueless or just trying to put him in a tough spot with their questioning. A little odd that his coach is doing the same thing by throwing the idea out there that he could be back.

 

Trying to put a 17 year old kid in a weird spot like that is a tough look hahah.

Yeah agreed.  You know he had a good few years in PG, so he doesn't want to outright just say he's never playing for them again.

And regardless of what NHL team drafts him, there would be no point in signing him and then just sending him back to the CHL lower level of play.
Whoever drafts him is going to want to see how he'll do against a tougher level of competition and also go thru a full year of strength/conditioning from a proven NCAA program.
