If he steps out of the pocket he needs to be thrown to the ground every play. Problem is Payton is bigger and stronger than 3/4’s of the guys trying to hit him. Jerry on the other hand… Quote

UND1983 Posted November 3 Posted November 3 Interesting to see the runaway Walter Payton award winner (per Fargo media) look so average against the best defense he faced all year. 0 TD's and 1 INT. 28 yards rushing. Quote

Wilbur Posted November 3 Posted November 3 UND is now almost in playoff mode with last week's loss. Got to win two out of three or what if 2.0. Youngstown showed you can score a bit on NDSU's defense. Game will come down to UNDs defense stopping Payton. He's had himself a great year, getting them off the field will be the key. Quote

Sioux94 Posted November 3 Posted November 3 I haven't watched much of any NDSU this year, is their rushing yardage coming mostly from Payton or the RB's? We've been pretty good against the run this year, and against running QB's. I know Payton is really really good, but at least We've seen quite a few running QB's this year. I imagine YSU QB probably the closest skill set to Cole that We've played? Running QB's will always get some yards, but its refreshing that our defense no longer makes them look like Heisman candidates. Hope they can keep him somewhat contained on Saturday. Quote

I'd say YSU's qb is shiftier and maybe 1st step quicker but Payton is bigger and stronger and maybe faster in the open. Guys gotta go low and take his legs out or he might push guys off or run thru em if has a full head of steam. I think we need to really pressure him but hold containment and not let him get out on the edges. Quote

gfhockey Posted November 4 Posted November 4 I hope I’m wrong but I remember two years ago the buzz and the confidence that the Und team had going into the game against the bison this year only one that’s getting a buzzes me seems like Quote

Longtime fan Posted November 4 Posted November 4 Und needs the victory for playoff clarity .. just like usd did last week. Und is at home while being the underdog….just like usd . The unexpected “things” have to happen just like the usd game Every team is beatable. Dont let the piss yellow team fans tell you different . Very rarely does a team go undefeated the entire season. This is the game UND has to play clean and sound unlike last week. Contain, contain, contain their qb. Big guy that is fast. Haven’t seen them play just some highlight's but he will be tough as he gets time to read the covers or take off. He looks more comfortable when being pressured as he can use his main weapon …his feet. Home game. Und is in playoff mode. Crowd noise ! Side question. Haven’t heard or read anything but anyone know if kaminski is alright ? He took two big shots the last drive that looked like he couldn’t shake off. He maintained his slouch too long . Again. I have no clue he was truly injured or just tired but hope he’s good to go.. und needs him Go Sioux ! 2 1 Quote

Kab Posted November 4 Posted November 4 Not sure what’s more annoying their fans or the press in Fargo their press wants them to move to FBS because they are so good, apparently their press isn’t that good or they would have moved to an FBD town Quote
Dustin Posted November 4 Posted November 4 Unfortunately, I am not excited about this game anymore. I am only about 25% confident in a win, whereas before I was about 60%. Losing to USD wasn't the worse possible loss, but it took a lot of luster off the season. Someone talk me off the ledge. 1 Quote

NDSU lost at USD last season and then went on to win a natty … we’ll be just fine enjoy the upcoming win and get back on board 2 Quote

Even in UND's best seasons under Lennon, there was always a highly disappointing loss to a team the Sioux should have beaten fairly easily. In 2001, it was the home loss to Omaha. In 2003, it was the season opener loss at Mesa State. It's all about how the team responds after the disappointing loss. We'll know a lot better what this team is made of after Saturday. I won't guarantee a win on Saturday, but I think Schmidt will have the team ready to play its best game of the season. 3 3 Quote
