What’s bothered me from the beginning is not that it would end up being Jackson, it’s that he’s been the wire to wire favorite. Given the state of the program and reminding all, his former boss was fired, you would think he’d have the most questions to answer out of anybody. Doesn’t pass the smell test. Could just the right people telling half truths. The only way it would make sense is if Berry himself was the sole reason and everyone knew it. Also, if Jackson had previous in-depth talks with Chaves prior to this.

Grant Potulny is a traitor? Not even close to the truth. As you may know, he had a brother Ryan. Und hockey blew this opportunity. They paid a price as well. Both chose to play for don lucia n the gophers. They both hoisted nattys!! You shouldve said: Grant Potulny, he’s a two time natty winner. Und blew it. Ive been friends with this family for 52 yrs. It is absolutely professional malpractice to ask or force these kids (they are still kids) to give any kind of comment/recommendations on the current coach or potential coach. Anyone who does that should be dropped as a candidate, & the administrator(s) should be fired on the spot.

So many have said it, which is why it probably won’t happen. But once again - slow down, wait for the tourney to at least get past the first round, do a real national search, talk to REAL former players & actually listen to their advice, & then pick the best candidate to restore our favorite hockey team to national dominance.

Excellent points. Maybe it’s some bias among former Sioux players who played for Jackson to take this line and want to see him named coach. Schmaltz has been pretty vocal this week on social media of his support for Dane as being named the next HC. 

Also what is a head scratcher for me is why the transfer portal opens up this Sunday and not until after the season has concluded when potentially other coaching candidates can apply for vacancies.

I agree with you that the AD messed up this firing/hiring process.  I'm gonna be a UND fan regardless of who is HC next season, and hope that the boys get past some of the issues of this past year.  Seems like a lot of it had to do with the exiting SR class.

I like where you’re going with this. Is it possible? The pres/a.d. want the convo to stay focused on who’ll be the next coach? Maybe they want to get ahead of the oncoming scrutiny. Cleanout the closet full of rattling skeletons, b4 people find out what’s really being hidden. What’s not being talked about in the media? Is the real story.

I agree with this mostly but I do think there was a small window where Smaby felt like the favorite to me. Now he’s hardly mentioned.

There was a brief period where, on here at least, felt like Raboin really could be the guy. That feels squashed now.

I felt like it would be impossible for them to just turn it over to Jackson but now I’m not so sure.

I'm going to have the popcorn ready for the press conference. Maybe that's what's taking so long, Chaves and Jackson are locked away with Schlossman, Ausmus and Schmaltz trying to figure out how they are going to explain this. Something is going to have to give. I don't think the fan base will be happy with, things were so great under Berry that we are going to keep the party going.

I can assure you they are doing their do diligence to interview a fair number of people. I would say it's not a slam dunk for Jax.

To my knowledge, Grant was not offered a scholarship and was simply expected to walk-on. Was not even recruited until he committed to Minnesota.  Sioux fan growing up.  Pretty poor foresight* as it cost UND G Potulny, R Potulny and D Irmen. Similarly, Michigan St locking up the oldest Cullen was masterclass as it likely means they get the family (with the younger ones being even better and that's no knock on Brooks who is a really solid hockey player).

yep- and the fact that its all in Michigan from a family perspective.  Middle brother already at the program.  Little brother already on the radar of the program.

Is it required that they publish all the applicants, or just the finalists?  Is there a time deadline on that release?   Seems like they let the world assume Dane to keep the boys from sprinting to the portal, and the uber fans something to hash and rehash, while they review the applicants and wait until after the Frozen Four. Is my scenario a possibility?

Speculation all over the place.   Speculation founded upon hearsay and a base of viewpoint bias.   Will at least someone be proven to have picked the right horse?  Of course; but that doesn't change the fact that we're all jerking off to speculation-based opinion.  Fun, though, which is the whole purpose.
