A close friend was a frosh on the team in '71-72 and played a lot on JV, which they had at that time.  Gino was coach.  Not well-liked by players, according to him.    That did not prove to be true when he was HC, though, so maybe it was personal.

Hang on a minute. Please tell me the sioux sports forums got hijacked. That AI Bots are leading us to believe the next coach is already on staff. Earlier today i was excited. All the talk seemed to point to a new young coach being hired from outside. Almost makes me ill to think about it. Please please change  th narrative. New blood will replace berry? Go sioux

It worse than you know.   My sources say it's none other than Brad B with a mullet wig and fake stache.

Exactly.

And there's really no decent "UND guys." Early junior coaches don't cut it.

Schmidt was the easy decision from the start...came down to him an a current assistant.

Here not so much, so it should be no surprise if it's Dane Jackson.

Didn't Berry not have his when he was hired and had to take classes with players?  I'd imagine Cullen (or anyone else) would have that option as well.  Maybe depending on how close to a degree they were already.

Cullen is leaving the state…he’s not coaching UND. I think Schlossman out some of those names in there as a joke.

Hak endorsing Jackson would be my red flag of nope.

Dane could end up like Albie at BU. A big mistake of hiring someone on the staff.

With Raboin's track record of doing very well at all his stops, I fail to see how he could also fail at UND. Like Carle, he seems to have that aura or panache that he's going to succeed wherever he's at. He seems like a no-brainer.

And if he interviews with Chaves, I would guess that he ends up leaving as strong an impression on him as he does his players.

I'll have to see it to believe it. Hiring the assistant coach from the coach you just fired is a bridge too far for me to really believe. Chavez has us rattled today, but he'll come through in the end. No way it'll end up being Jackson!

Wait, did Chavez just do this exact same thing in Women’s basketball? Oh boy.

So I've seen some mention the applicant list and who applied, is the way a coaching search works at North Dakota different then many other places? Isn't a AD just able to target who they want and try to negotiate a deal with them without needing a pool of applicants. Like I know Minnesota fired basketball coach Ben Johnson on March 12th and by like 10AM March 13th Coyle had a deal with Niko Medved even though Colorado State just lost on Sunday. Couldn't Chaves call Barr and get a deal done and whenever Maine loses it is announced.

This is how it works when you have an AD that actually networks and enjoys interacting with people.

If they named an internal hire in wbb that quickly, like they did with Hakstol & Berry when they became coaches, then why is it taking that long to announce Jackson? Unless they're vetting some other applicants maybe, otherwise I see no reason for this delay.

This would theorize he was not the guy from the get go

My guess is that they opened the coaching search with the hope of getting Hak to say yes. Since it appears that it won’t happen I suspect Dane will be named the next head coach by the end of the week. Not the way I would like to see it go but I don’t get to decide. Another tourney miss or two or continual first round failures in the next few years and we will be looking again for a new coach and also a new AD.

This would be outrageous and indefensible. If you are going to promote from within, you announce it soon after relieving the previous coach of his duties. You don't put on this dog and pony show and then tell everyone "Just kidding, we're promoting from within."
