Those guys are some of the only ties that Coach F has to UND. I think both coaches are great especially compared to the other side of the ball. Both played FBS ball, unlike our D2 coaches. i wouldn’t mind bringing in a true QB coach who can develop these Young guys. Move coach k the WR’s. I was right once again. stepps and Kostich will be good guys to keep for the local contacts . Can’t wait for a new d coordinator 2 Quote

Three defensive coaching positions are open, once those are filled, one of the three likely will be named defensive coordinator in addition to specific position responsibilities. 1 Quote

Probably just DC in title? Assuming Schmidt will be the play caller. Quote

Not doubting your reply but it seems like a strange way to hire a staff. I'd think he'd work top down. Maybe his preferred DC candidate is with a team that is still playing. 2 Quote
forksandspoons Posted December 20 Posted December 20 Based on Schmidt’s time at UW and SDSU, I’d guess the DC will coach LBs as well. Quote

I am thinking he's courting one preferred name, with a potential couple backups in case his first choice doesn't pan out. 2 Quote
MinnDak Posted December 20 Posted December 20 There is enough coaches in place so he can take his time and get it right. The DC had better be good or there will be little improvement overall. Quote
UND-FB-FAN Posted December 20 Posted December 20 Eric Schmidt is not going to be both a defensive coordinator and a defensive play-caller, all while dealing with head coach responsibilities. There will be a new yet very capable defensive coordinator in place in due time. Patience, patience, patience. 2 Quote

Didn't we have to wait 30 days for the announcement for Bubba to be hired. Schmidt was hired in what 10 days, many assistants are in place. Would rather Schmidt get the right guys than worry about how quickly they are hired. I'm confident it will all come together. 1 Quote

ND-fan Posted December 21 Posted December 21 I hear there are a lot of openings for coaches with Northern Iowa, Drake, North Dakota, Idaho, Fresno and Sac State so there a lot of coaching shuffles as schools have coaches moving for better opportunities. I believe this all slows down process of getting coaches signed or committed to coming here. We may also be finding are pay levels might be problem getting people to come here. Plus there are openings for coaches at FBS is at much higher pay scales than at FCS level. We experienced this last year with offensive coordinators before you have someone signed other schools are coming in making better offer to where they are looking at those offers as well natur. Society. Quote

Society. You’re right that there is a ton of transition and opportunities right now, so UND sitting back and being patient is likely a very good move right now. Can’t be too complacent, but strategic patience is probably going to payoff given the roster limits, coaching transitions, and number of portal entries. UND needs to do better with its coaching salaries, and that comes back to all the alumni and fans - including those typing on here. Need to do better, give what you can if you truly care about UND football, and advocate for it when you see or meet with anyone from UND with decision-making responsibilities. 2 Quote

Just being fans who care and are interested in how things work in the coaching ranks and how the university goes about hiring. Quote

What if the salary pool was the same regardless for the same number of coaches, but they were about to spread it out a bit more to get better position coaches....? 1 Quote
