Get a life and get over it. UND needs to give him something to post on his twitter account to make our state proud. What did he say that was wrong? Fantastic Game? Great Season? Incredible Dynasty? All true. The jealousy of NDSU is so bizarre on this forum. UND needs to go out and do what NDSU did. The biggest mistake was when UND chose not to follow NDSU to D1. They have paid for it ever sense. Historically and per precedent, yes, it is possible. Burgum was very one sided in terms of the rivalry. But you’re new to UND and presumably these dynamics so you’re excused. The jealously is bizarre? I would argue quite the contrary- it is incredibly expected, actually. 1 Quote

Bubba was not incompetent, he just couldn't get us to the next level as a program. Some of that wasn't his fault (the antiquated facilities for one), but overall he just didn't have what it takes to get us from average to great. Mussman was a very young, inexperienced with no previous head coach experience. He had a young team and it seemed very little support from the AD (at least the season progressed). A word of caution here: we also have a new HC and I hope the AD and athletic department supports. In health care, many times a new nurse is thrown into situations beyond her (his) capabilities. Sometimes these people just walk away from the profession…sad to lose qualified people due to administrative decisions. I am not saying Mussman was a good coach. I am saying he did not get the support he needed. Please make sure Schmidt gets what he needs….not just $$$. 3 Quote
UND1983 Posted January 8 Posted January 8 Burgum went out of his way to attend random NDSU events in their gear. I expect the same from Kelly. 1 Quote

Travis Stepps follows him on X. Had an offer to Utah State last spring as well. Quote

Wilbur Posted January 9 Posted January 9 Schmidt comes in and just immediately adds speed and athleticism. The first thing that he does...... Is he a great recruiter, or were we just that under skilled at some of these spots the entire time? 2 Quote

I suppose if you want to compare Bubba to Mussman at the end line by line (in a vaccuum) you could maybe say the overall team is very marginally better. But to that I would say 1) Have higher standards than being better than what Mussman was at the end and 2) Bubba barely moved the needle on this program after all of his years.....meanwhile UND fell farther and farther behind the SDSUs....NDSUs.....and more recently Montana State and USDs of FCS. By his lack of meangful progress he dragged this program farther back from the pack than it ever was under Mussman. No, Mussman and Bubba didn't drag this program farther back, our administration did. When NDSU made an announcement back in the early 2000's, UND held a press conference announcing they were staying D2 (what a joke). When we went to D1, we tried being cheap and kept coaches that shouldn't have been coaches just because they didn't cost that much. We also hired coaches that shouldn't have been D1 coaches. 1 2 Quote

What was really sad was the denial UND had in the early years of NDSU having success. The head in the sand approach while claiming that FCS (1AA) wasn't real D1 athletics seemed like it backed the administration into a corner and couldn't admit they were wrong. 1 Quote

I never understood that argument, even if it is somewhat true. I remember telling friends that UND would be ecstatic with winning football championships at any level where the competition includes NDSU. Quote
