Wilbur Posted January 9 Posted January 9 Schmidt comes in and just immediately adds speed and athleticism. The first thing that he does...... Is he a great recruiter, or were we just that under skilled at some of these spots the entire time? 2 Quote

He has been to the highest level of NCAA football and made the peak, so he knows what it will take. 1 Quote

I suppose if you want to compare Bubba to Mussman at the end line by line (in a vaccuum) you could maybe say the overall team is very marginally better. But to that I would say 1) Have higher standards than being better than what Mussman was at the end and 2) Bubba barely moved the needle on this program after all of his years.....meanwhile UND fell farther and farther behind the SDSUs....NDSUs.....and more recently Montana State and USDs of FCS. By his lack of meangful progress he dragged this program farther back from the pack than it ever was under Mussman. No, Mussman and Bubba didn't drag this program farther back, our administration did. When NDSU made an announcement back in the early 2000's, UND held a press conference announcing they were staying D2 (what a joke). When we went to D1, we tried being cheap and kept coaches that shouldn't have been coaches just because they didn't cost that much. We also hired coaches that shouldn't have been D1 coaches. 1 2 Quote

What was really sad was the denial UND had in the early years of NDSU having success. The head in the sand approach while claiming that FCS (1AA) wasn't real D1 athletics seemed like it backed the administration into a corner and couldn't admit they were wrong. 1 Quote

I never understood that argument, even if it is somewhat true. I remember telling friends that UND would be ecstatic with winning football championships at any level where the competition includes NDSU. Quote

I said he wasn't true D1 like D1 hockey and questioned if it was a higher level of competition compared to D2. I think the UND football fans felt otherwise and wanted to move up. Quote

Beyond a silly narrative. Poor leadership tends to lead you [UND] astray, who would’ve thought? 1 Quote

forksandspoons Posted January 9 Posted January 9 The potential for the offense next fall is awesome. Hopefully the new players can gel with the returning players this spring. Could have an extremely athletic QB, with three new speedy WR weapons (one proven at FCS, and two FBS dropdowns) + Deng, at RB you'll have Ziebarth + Seidl, behind 4 returning starting offensive linemen and a couple others who played a good amount. I wonder if they'll continue to look for a TE as I know the one offer they had out a while back committed elsewhere. Everyone can probably agree the defense has a ton of work to do. CB has already been addressed with Lewis and Walker + those that are returning. Safeties struggled last year, but were mostly all new to playing meaningful minutes and were very young. Hopefully, the addition of Frankfather pushes them all to get better. The DL hasn't been great for a while. They had a good amount of youth at DE last year, and it will be interesting to see which players fit the new scheme. Returning McNeal at LB is great, and Rucker will likely be a beast next season, but it just feels like some more size in the middle and speed on the outside is needed. Hopefully, the spring portal is as good as this winter has been to UND, and they are able to get some impact players at DT, Edge, & LB. Known transfers: QB - Javance Tupouata-Johnson - San Diego State WR - Jamaal Young II - Arizona State WR - BJ Fleming Jr. - Northern Arizona WR - Kristen Hoskins - Minnesota CB - Bennett Walker - San Diego State CB - Zach Lewis - Northern Arizona DT - Emmanuel Olagbaju - St Thomas Edge - Kyjuan Vengrowsky - Winona State S - Nate Frankfather - Mt San Jacinto (JUCO) 2 Quote
