Well, more the merrier, add to the high enrollment. We want talented students on campus, but as for making the football roster, the standard needs to be higher there and everyone should be in agreement. If it’s challenging to make the roster due to higher standards, they could mean more talented football team (if you’re evaluating correctly; otherwise it is just a bunch of crap and ongoing mediocrity continues).

He played basketball until his senior year.. started on the basketball team and then switched to wrestling about midway through the season and took 3rd in state (without having wrestled previously).  Heck of an athlete.

You keep with this argument but statistically they were not worse than the year before he got there and they lost 10 starters on defense along with a portion of the two deep.  I don’t know if that’s a good thing or not and there are plenty of ways to make the stats tell any story you want but it’s not like he inherited an above average defense and ran it into the ground.  He inherited no experience, had to rebuild it and performed as well as expected in one year.  
 

Bigger indicator of his abilities for me is a top 5 coach in the country trusted his abilities enough to want to retain him on his staff when moving to the most storied program in college football.

Not going to put much stock into this considering it was year 1 and they were taking over a struggling program.

DeBoer didn’t elevate Schmidt to be his DC, so I think this ongoing argument of DeBoer’s “endorsement” also should be reconsidered.

Win the portal. A bit different this year with timing and a new head coach. Ideally, nobody enters today - Wednesday. Why? Most likely be key players. To win the portal, the first objective is to keep key players. This tells me, everyone is open to the new head coach. You do need players to enter to make room for “upgrades”. Those being mutual decisions (most likely dictated by coaching staff). Those would happen, later this week / early next week.
