Weber State

Watching some of Weber vs. Sac State.  That Weber defense is tough.  Kett may need to play the best game of his career.

Sac with some success with misdirection like we like to run with Boltman and company, but the Weber defense always flies to the football.

Weber defense only had ten guys on the field and they still stopped Sac St. on a 4th and short.  Then they score a short time later and its 36-10 Weber.

Sac State QB got hurt earlier in the game, but Weber's o line has done a good job for their shifty RB and the QB on bootlegs.

Glad our team is coming off a bye week.  Healthy bodies and a great game plan is needed in Utah Saturday.

Weber's top RB Davis ran for 177 yards with an average of 7 yards a pop.

Pretty balanced with team also passing for 177 yards on only 22 attempts.

QB on average completes around 65 percent of his passes.  Has only passed over 200 yards one time this year against Davis.

November game in Utah, I'm betting they'll stay true to form and run at our depleted defensive front.

At times In first half Sac St was moving the ball well. TO's and Drops killed momentum for them. Would've been interesting to see if their QB didn't get hurt if they would've made it a different/closer ball game. Hopefully they put enough on tape for Danny to find some weaknesses.

An upset over Weber would be huge, and the biggest win of Bubba's era.  If we lose though, we absolutely need to look like we belong on the same  field.  If we end up 7-4 and on the bubble they will be nit picking little things, and we all know we have the bad loss to ISU.  But if we play Weber tight at the end of the year at their place, they are also going to have to consider that too.  Lets' hope some guys are healed up and we are ready to play come Saturday!

3 keys to Weber game.

Can our OL keep Kett upright.

Can our DL slow Weber's RB's

Can we win the TO battle.

1.  That's probably the biggest key to winning the game.

2.  Those kids are going to have to play better than they did against Montana State.  Davis gets some space and he's gone.

3.  Weber very good at protecting the football.  I don't think we will, but this group always seems to surprise people.

Weber St. is currently a top 5 team, I'd venture to say the top 5 teams are a step up above the rest in FCS. They have been in the playoffs each of the last 3 seasons with a 3-3 record. With that said, and adding in Stewart Stadium, this game is a challenge for us.

A win over the Wildcats would put the Hawks in an above the bubble playoff position with 2 games to go. A loss and we could be heading towards the mercy of the playoff committee as an independent, putting Bubba in a position of having 4 potentially playoff talented teams in 6 seasons and possibly resulting in a total of one playoff game - a disappointing loss.

This game result will be huge, in the view we will have looking forward next Monday morning.

This will be just the 5th meeting ever between UND & Weber with all meetings coming in the Bubba Schweigert & Jay Hill era.

UND is 1-3 against them.

  • 2014:  24-12 Loss in GF.........................Weber's final record was 2-10
  • 2015:  25-24 Loss in Ogden..................Weber's final record was 6-5
  • 2016:  27-19 Win in GF...........................Weber's final record was 7-5
  • 2018:  35-30 Loss in GF.........................Weber's final record was 10-3

It will be a tall order to win in Ogden this Saturday.  But we've been competitive with what is generally a solid team in recent years.  At the very least, our team doesn't have a track record of soiling themselves at the site of Weber like they do when they tangle with Idaho St.

Weber's D is legit, and their running game is questionable matchup for our defense.  We need to stack the box, and have faith that our DB's can hold up in man coverage against their QB who is not a great passer.  The key will be to contain Davis, who ran wild last week against Sac St who has a pretty good run defense.

The crazy thing with Weber this year is luck.  Everything goes their way in a very crazy way.   They may have made some kind of deal with the devil.  Unverified, but I am pretty sure.

We’ve had some luck on our side this year, too.
