Sweethockey Posted February 12, 2023 Posted February 12, 2023 At what point will Chaves review Berry? There must be some type of an MBO for the highest paid state employee. I know there are incentives for certain achievements, but there’s got to be some minimum benchmarks too. The team’s stock for entertainment is dropping as fast as crypto! 1 Quote

Good guy, but I would expect to be fired if I underperformed like that. The Natty is starting to look like an anomaly, and the norm seems to be missing the playoffs now. Brad Berry=Mike Eaves Quote

I don't think she has any anymore does she? If not, they could still promote the Engelstad Foundation though. I'd like to see Chaves put together a legit NIL deal though - sell jerseys with player names. Fill the ugly gap in the replica jerseys and players benefit... kill two birds with one stone. Completely legal and tons of schools are already doing this stuff. Most schools that UND competes against already have legit NIL deals in place (not collectives) with at least one company. Quote

I also think the focus on 5th year guys is hurting us bad too. I know a guy who sent his kid to Denver and he basically said if you play a skill game go to DU. I would argue that the reason we aren't successful is because we seem to be a little softer than we used to be. When we keep talking "no swagger" on the years we are down, there is a problem in the guys we are recruiting. We would always have some skill guys and a complement of players that just had an edge and would go through a brick wall for the team. Everyone would always say that we would be the hardest working team and were just plain hard to play against. When I look at our roster, there aren't that many players I look at and think their distinguishing characteristic is being tough to play against. Some of the defensive lapses are due to being mentally lazy, and some from being physically lazy, and those aren't thing usually associated with UND hockey. Need to find a way to right the ship and truly be a team of "culture"! 3 Quote

Add in total lack of discipline for stupid penalties and you have this season in a nutshell. The question is will Berry have enough insight and flexibility to look at what is happening and make changes or will we just more of the same? 1 Quote

They all had enough skill to keep you honest, chirped and agitated a bit and got guys off their game. We have not had that type of player in awhile. 2 2 Quote

Who would people prefer be hired for this position? This is what I'm talking about in the idea of lack of perspective that I talked about in the other thread. We're not all on the same page of what our standard should be. National Championships are the ultimate goal, but it's ignoring the other things. Winning league title shows consistency and the ability to get the team into positions to make runs at winning the big prize. This season has been a major disappointment with the expectations we all had coming into the year. To me, this whole season reeks of the snowball effect. Our team started to struggle early on causing our players to doubt themselves and overplay the game (consistently bad turnovers, blowing leads, missing assignments), leading to more mistakes and losses, and we haven't been able to right the ship. This season hasn't reflected others, IMO. Unlike the others when we missed the playoffs the two times Bubbs was head coach, this season doesn't reflect a lack of talent, but an inability to overcome challenges. If this continues next year, I'd be concerned about it more. I've asked that "who's next" question several times without a response from anyone who's upset about Bubbs and staff. What would that do to guys currently in our pipeline that we're excited about - Perron, Strathmann, Livanavage, Emerson, McInnis, etc.? How about guys like Blake, McLaughlin, Strinden, etc.? Without these questions answered in how they'd make an immediate change, it makes no sense to move on this. Would we hire Jax? What would that change? How about Karl? I think Karl could be a change of style, but is it a massive change? Who should we be considering? I have yet to hear a constructive discussion about any of this. 1 Quote

Duluth in that same span 0 league and 2 NCAA and hasn't missed a tournament. Denver 2 league titles, 2 NCAA and has missed 1 tournament. It's the green banners that really matter and this will be the third time in his tenure they won't even get to play for one. 5 Quote

Who is truly going to make UND better, in your eyes? Is it worth risking everything in our pipeline and the players we are looking for immediate growth just for the sake of change? Does this season mean we're not right back in contention next year if we keep Bubbs? If we make the change, what does that mean for the short term AND long term? Quote
The Sicatoka Posted February 15, 2023 Posted February 15, 2023 Did Berry's team win in 2016 ... or did Hakstol's team with Berry behind the bench? 3 Quote
SIOUXELEVENS Posted February 15, 2023 Posted February 15, 2023 We all know Berry is not going anywhere but has to at least make some changes to his coaching cause it’s not working and the last six years proves that, yes he has league titles but what does that do for you , no auto bid for regular season on playoffs and maybe if that’s what they focus on they don’t have much left for the NCAA tourney. 3 Quote
