SiouxFan100 Posted October 25, 2019 Posted October 25, 2019 Curious Are there more grand Forks or Fargo posters on this site? Quote
northernraider Posted October 25, 2019 Posted October 25, 2019 It does but an interesting conundrum. Does the city provide a tax break for a facility that will compete with Alerus Center for business? 1 Quote
SIOUXFAN97 Posted October 26, 2019 Posted October 26, 2019 assuming maybe this is why the st johns block redo has been put off for the last two years or so? Quote

Edgewood, the senior housing local corporation, is known for making good financial decisions and recently bought the old Alerus building for HQ on the top floor. Trust them for making business decisions more than the city. where is the "old alerus buidling" Quote

Also when is the saturation point for $400k condos in downtown? I'm not anti-downtown development, but seems there is a lot happening at once before evaluating if there's really a demand. This attitude unfortunately reflects the average GF resident. It’s an attitude that holds the city back. 3 Quote
nodakvindy Posted October 26, 2019 Posted October 26, 2019 Hopefully the hotel is a Delta. Would be a good fit. Quote

Build it and they will come. So many cities throughout the world have seen that making downtown attractive again will draw people. Good for GF to get on board. 3 Quote

If any of the taxing groups, such as city, school board, park board, etc, object, they can file to get out of it. Nearly every hotel has conference room space. When Sky's first moved into the new Edqewood Complex, think this had already been planned. Sky's and a Boutique hotel with conference rooms need to go together so all would work better. Quote
gfhockey Posted October 27, 2019 Posted October 27, 2019 Rumor on street that the townhouse will be torn down in two years and more apartments there Quote

SiouxVolley Posted October 30, 2019 Posted October 30, 2019 The hotel will be named, Olive Ann, named after Olive Ann Beech, who was a cofounder of Beechcraft. http://knoxradio.com/news/local/gf-downtown-boutique-hotel Where is the new construction going? Thought is was across the street from the old First National, but a development called the Argyle is planned for that spot. Quote

Parking lot that sits to the north of the building that Sky’s is in (Edgewood building). New building will connect to it. Quote
DB Cooper Posted October 30, 2019 Posted October 30, 2019 Gotta give credit to the city of GF, downtown development association, etc. for making all these investments into downtown - Condos, Hugos Grocery with new Alerus bank, Skyways, new DeMers street w/ new side walks, hotel, update town square. Can't wait to see what it looks like when all is done. Not knocking the old townhouse inn, but that place is very out dated 3 Quote

Not knocking the old townhouse inn, but that place is very out dated By my count: - Convention center (82 room hotel, ballrooms, condos, bar) - Arbor Park building (5 stories with condos & retail) - Hugos/Alerus (plus 60? apartments) - Lyons Garage (100+ apartments + retail) - Corner of Demers and 4th (5 story building with retail and commercial) - Renovation of Seaworth law firm building into restaurant (next to the Empire) - Demers reconstruction - Town Square reconstruction - Eventually the old water plant redevelopment Any others? Irish Posted October 30, 2019 Posted October 30, 2019 It would be nice if we could see some progress on the street construction. It looks like little progress has been made lately. Quote
BarnWinterSportsEngelstad Posted October 30, 2019 Posted October 30, 2019 Facing east standing on Demers. Dark Brown low building to the right & left of GC Bank sign will be the Gresh Steak House. Closeup of the start of building of Hugos and all. Quote
BarnWinterSportsEngelstad Posted October 30, 2019 Posted October 30, 2019 Downtown has been a construction traffic problem all summer, and I'll be worth it. Intersection of Old Highway 81 and Demers Ave ahead at the lights. Nice sidewalk, color coded mid street aprons, color coded sidewalks, pavers in the berm. All new ground coverings from building face to building face - sidewalk, street, & berm. Future Hugos, Alerus Bank, Appartments. Just to left of parking ramp is Central HS. Quote

SiouxVolley Posted November 7, 2019 Posted November 7, 2019 Some proposed changes for Downtown from the city website, including apartments and housing at the old water treatment plant location: https://rdgusa.com/sites/grandforks/#prettyPhoto Thought they would go higher. Downtown should grow West to North Washington along University, as the area needs redevelopment. Quote
