Another thing is UND paid for her education which isn't cheap. How often was she out of the lineup over her years here playing for the Canadian National team. Would imagine some of those games missed hurt our chances for the NCAA tournament, but then again UND's program was around to get players on National teams.

That is what Omaha did. Unfortunately, we have invested big $$$$$ into a practice facility big enough for football. Also, the program is on the upswing thanks to Bubba and his staff. This is an option that is no longer open to us. That has really hurt Omaha by making that deal with Nebraska.

UND1983
Listening to the women's players interviewed on MacTalk is mind blowing. They are the single most delusional program in UND history. Anybody who listened to that interview would probably think they are Minnesota or Wisconsin. They are currently waiting on a number to save their program. They know the number, we all know the number. But, they are apparently waiting to hear it confirmed.

This year, apparently the womens tournament is drawing Super-Bowl like ratings and is the biggest tournament since the 1980 Olympics.

Not all of us dumb country folk who grew up in the SW corner of the state were or would be thrilled with the idea of going to college more than 100+ miles away from home. The idea of closing entire universities and colleges so we can fund a floundering athletics program for roughly 30 athletes at the flagship school is so preposterous, it doesn't even merit discussion. I mostly just looked at the student to facility ratio, and proximity to other schools. But you have really only a few choices in this option, either increase revanue (More taxes). Cut programs at all the insitutions, or cut one or more of the other institutions

The revenue will go somewhere...Instead of supporting the small North Dakota town economy and educating people, it'll be used to help Fargo grow using more LSS (that's 4 U oxbow;)? Mayville would probably immediately go into a recession. Less immediate quality of life for those residents who enjoy watching a local college football game outdoors in October. Count a business or four to close. Are you for the closing of the GFAFB also to save a few bucks? 1

Personally, I would be all for a modest tax increase if it meant better funding all the institutions, even if the athletic programs in question still were cut. The sSmaller schools I'm sure could use the additional funding, but even UND and NDSU could use those funds to renovate various campus buildings and systems, to say nothing of funding more research. However, ND would likely never vote for this.

Yes, they were a top ten program every year, but people were becoming more and more disinterested. When you're not scoring many goals, and there is no physical play, it just isn't exciting to watch. I think he really did know that it was a strong possibility of this occurring. I don't think he felt that with an administration that is only 15 months in and an AD who is hockey friendly (not saying that as a slight btw) they would actually do it. Kennedy and Faison called his bluff. Looking back at the articles in the Herald over the past few months and decisions from the Pres and AD, they did tip their hand on what they were doing once you put it all together. The number that came out that was needed for the second round of cuts and the hiring of the Title IX consultants/lawyers was a dead giveaway. It just came down to whether they got sufficient answers and they had the guts to do what makes sense financially instead of trying to not rock the boat too much. Bison101
So Morehead needed 35 million to endow a men's and women's hockey program, but UND needs 60 million just for women's? Somebody is embellishing just a bit. UND made the right call, but throwing insane BS numbers around will only make things worse. #herecometheHeitkamps 1
