zonadub Posted November 16, 2013 Posted November 16, 2013 Full search. Best candidate. UND 2.0 the announcement should be something along the lines of "we're starting a nationwide search for the best candidate"... 1 Quote
Wilbur Posted November 16, 2013 Posted November 16, 2013 I bet he's got plenty of ins in nd and mn from his highschool days and coaching in the cities. I'm kind of on the Bollinger bandwagon if he even wants the job. Young guy, lots of energy, played QB in the NFL. If Muss does go I'm sure they'll take a month of applications, and then hopefully the new guy is in place by early January if not sooner. Anxious to see who the interim coach would be. Quote

geaux_sioux Posted November 16, 2013 Posted November 16, 2013 Whomever is the next coach will hopefully use the TEs like NDSU. They block and block and block and block and then catch TD and get big first downs. Ours might not have a catch or even a target this year. 1 Quote
geaux_sioux Posted November 16, 2013 Posted November 16, 2013 Bohl manages the game so smooth. That's a lot of Vigen. Quote
gfhockey Posted November 16, 2013 Posted November 16, 2013 they don't do anything flashy. just straight smash mouth football... they never expect a big play...they run the full back and TE quite back on quick outs and get needed 1st downs.... they move the ball well...just get shrot yardage plays and it chews up the clock. Siouxperman8 Posted November 16, 2013 Posted November 16, 2013 That's a lot of Vigen. Any chance Vigen would be interested? Quote
zonadub Posted November 16, 2013 Posted November 16, 2013 Any chance Vigen would be interested? Yeah, the NDSU job after Bohl goes FBS. Quote
geaux_sioux Posted November 16, 2013 Posted November 16, 2013 Any chance Vigen would be interested? He's an ndsu guy through and through. There's no way I could see that happening. Although Bo Schembeckler was an OSU man and turned out to be the most legendary figure in Michigan sports history. Quote
UND-FB-FAN Posted November 17, 2013 Posted November 17, 2013 Originally I was on the bandwagon to get a defensive-minded HC and I still wouldn't mind that at all but right now I am all in on the Bollinger bandwagon. Too young and way too inexperienced as a head coach. He'd make a good offensive coordinator possibly, but I currently wouldn't want him as a head coach. 1 Quote
Wilbur Posted November 17, 2013 Posted November 17, 2013 Any current assistants in the Big Sky that are big names? Maybe the o-coordinator from Montana State could come over and bring his QB with him.... Quote
UND99 Posted November 17, 2013 Posted November 17, 2013 I bet he's got plenty of ins in nd and mn from his highschool days and coaching in the cities. ND, MN, WI are covered as ins for Bollinger. Sounds like a familiar (NDSU?!) championship formula. Quote
UND99 Posted November 17, 2013 Posted November 17, 2013 Yeah, the NDSU job after Bohl goes FBS. As I was watching Nebraska lose to Michigan State today I wondered, is UN the second favorite team of NDSU's faithful? Every time Nebraska loses, the Pelini noose tightens, meaning that the intrigue of Bohl to Lincoln increases. Quote
Nodak78 Posted November 17, 2013 Posted November 17, 2013 lets open this up for a good search. Brooks has good ties to WI, MN and ND. He sure was a leader at Wisconsin. Quote

iramurphy Posted November 18, 2013 Posted November 18, 2013 Too young and way too inexperienced as a head coach. He'd make a good offensive coordinator possibly, but I currently wouldn't want him as a head coach. He led the Badgers to Rose Bowl and Big Ten Championships. Played with Jets, Vikes, and Cowboys and stint in USFL at end of his career. Turned Hill Murray around in first year as head coach. He is QB coach for Pitt Panthers and highly respected by people here. If we can get a guy of this caliber, you get him now cuz he will move up the ranks in due time. He is in his 30's, not too young. How old to you want him to be? Brooks was an excellent student and if anyone doesn't think spending time in NFL as starting and back-up QB and QB coach at Pitt isn't as good as being a head coach at Sioux Falls, or some other small college, then I would strongly disagree. The guy can coach. When you hire you need to be able to pick those guys who can coach and recruit. Bollinger can do both and would be a great head coach. 3 Quote
The Sicatoka Posted November 18, 2013 Posted November 18, 2013 Folks, we're jumping the gun. Step 1: Have open position tomorrow at 5 pm. 1 Quote

I know his background and I believe he's a great coach, I just think one should be cautious when considering a 34 year old coach who has no experience as a college head coach. He would be one of the youngest head coaches in the country if he was hired. I think the youngest FBS coach is 32 and he coaches at Western Michigan. Quote

There is a guy in Lubbock who is eerily similar to Bollinger and seems to be doing OK. Quote
UND-FB-FAN Posted November 18, 2013 Posted November 18, 2013 Bollinger has potential, but I feel his lack of coaching experience is worth noting. Playing is different than coaching - no way around that. I feel Bollinger isn't the BEST candidate, although he is a good one. Quote
