College Hockey 2012/13 (non UND Hockey)

I don't have time to follow the local sports scene. I have a lot of stuff going on, plus work. I went to a couple ND High School Hockey games this season, I am tickled pink that we have some solid ND players coming this season

I was kidding...it's nice to see local kids playing a variety of sports at the collegiate level. Not just UND and not just hockey. Just look at Taylor Steen playing at Indiana St for baseball..perfect example.

No worries dude, I got a wife nipping at my heels and I wish I had more hours in a day than I do now. :) I actually have a semi new lap top computer that I have to send back to the company (under warranty) that I have already worn out.

I always heard that those porn sites will do it every time. :)

Has anyone seen anything on the reason Steve Johnson stepped down as UNO Asst? Has he landed anywhere yet? I apologize if this was already discussed.

I have been wondering the same thing. He's a great guy...and coach.

What year did he leave Fargo and what year did his son go to Lincoln? Was it the same year? Maybe he has something against coaching against his son?! Or maybe he just wants to enjoy his son's college hockey career?

I don't remember which thread the Zach Stepan discussion was in, but it looks like he'll play at Mankato

Per USHR on twitter

Good get for Mankato and I think good choice for Stepan. I had heard he had no interest in going to Ohio State after the firing of their coach and Ohio State was trying to block him from going to any B1G or NCHC school and if that was the case and he wanted to stay close to home(don't know but could be a reason rather than going out east) it would really have been between Bemidji and Mankato and I think Mankato will have a very nice future in the WCHA.

If Mankato ever manages to get an on-campus rink or improves their facilities, look out.

On campus facilities aren't going to happen. While it's not the nicest building in the world, it's not even 20 years old and we can't get state money to renovate this one let along build a new rink. Now I will say, that I think they have chipped away enough to finally get some state funding for renovations next year, but you never know. I honestly don't know that a on campus facility would help that much anyway.

Hastings will be gone before that happens.

I wouldn't be so sure of that. All the rumblings that I hear are the he and his family love Kato. Add to that, his kids are getting closer and closer to high school age and they likely won't want to uproot their family once they have gotten into sports, groups of friends, etc.

Are all buildings done with State $$ in Minnesota or what?

Nope, in fact the civic center has all been paid with local money up to this point. All of the other arenas in the state have used state money though. The local businesses have pretty much put their foot down and said that they can't afford to pay any additional taxes though. The reality is that things like civic centers and other public buildings get built by or at least contributed to by the state. Mankato didn't have the luxury of waiting around for the state to act like Duluth, Bemidji and St. Cloud did. If Kato wanted to get into the WCHA, they required a new rink, so the city stepped in to build the arena. Unfortunately for MSU, they required a lease that is one of the worst in all of D1 hockey. Now MSU and the city have gotten to the point where they seemingly have enough leverage to get something done (after being turned down for the last 7 years when Duluth, Bemidji, St. Cloud and Rochester all got funding for their civic center/arenas).The precedent has been set so that's the way that we have to go about things.

Well, since we don't have to play Minnesota State and we don't get a crack at Minnesota, outside NCAA tournament games anyways, I don't mind seeing Minnesota State having a roster that can keep on with their trend of beating the "mighty gophers". Mankato and other WCHA teams will have to win games like that to get more teams in the NCAA tournament than just the playoff champs.

I thought everybody wanted to play in the Big 10? LOL By the way does anyone know now that they have a league for hockey what will become of the Rodents and FSN? Big 10 network does not really cover hockey at all.

He signed his letter of intent already so OSU wouldn't release him if he was going to go to a Big 10 school.
