  1. Johnson has not talked to a college coach as of yet. He doesn't have a USHL team looking at him either. He will have to prove his skill is real in NAHL. Good saying is "guys with size have to prove they can't play while a smaller guy has to prove he can play". ND kids have a tougher road. If Grant was in MN he'd already be committed. Maybe same for Lund and Salquist.
  2. This is a down year for all of ND hockey but HB needs to be junior gold or something. Just a sign of the times with most sports here. Check out freshman boys n girls basketball numbers as another example. Maybe Rericks blog letter rant holds some truth.
  3. Yes, elusive as in the last three years. RR has more banners once the high school was built. Let's hope Central can win it all this year!
  4. Tough game for EGF last night. Parents said Lund hasn't practiced in 2 weeks due to injury. He looked tired and Selk just came back from injury. Centrals good. Real speed and disrupt play. Central finally should get the elusive banner.
  5. Here's what I was told of the Nick Lund story. He was told he was on Bismarck after main camp, during training camp and would play in 1/2-3/4 games. As the season progressed he played in 1/11 games but since he was still a senior had the opportunity to play in EGF and decided to go that route to actually play. ND has a rule that once you are living in another town and school starts you have to sit out the year of varsity sports. It's not an option or open to discussion. It's the rule. Now Bismarck and Minot get a competitive advantage with this rule because those kids don't leave home or school so if it doesn't work out they can go back to varsity hockey in those towns. MN has a 45 day period where you can leave and go back to the original school. If ND had a similar rule he would be at Central. It's a terrible rule that will affect more kids coming up. KIds want to play hockey at a higher level and don't feel ND hockey gives them that option. Someone should look up just how many HS eligible kids are playing elsewhere right now. In AAA hockey alone DL has 2 for sure, WF has 3, Grafton 1-2, South 2-3 and the list goes on. If all the kids stayed ND hockey would be competitive once again. The 2 future UND kids at RR and Central will be leaving after this year and maybe Salquist will join them. Possibly the Minot D guy and one from BHS also.
  6. Yes you are right but to a point. 2 days for an entire summer is not enough. And then you have to decide what kind of team do you want. If you want a team that can compete for championships with kids who are there most but not all the time or do you want a team where the kids show up all the time that can win most games but have no chance at playoffs. That's what it depends on. Kind of the same as Sioux hockey..2 year players vs 4 year players. Which is the right way to go? Wow that was to much insight for one day!
  7. Yea some RR kids played Blues last year....possibly not this year though. But the age group mentioned above would have been first year Royals. They didn't play and they were awesome players. It's exactly like Yote was saying...good to have rules but it's forcing kids to make a choice. I've heard all the Fargo teams lightened up because kids were dropping BB for the lake, hockey etc. Unfortunately my son will join the ranks and not play legion I'm afraid. Good luck to your son Yote on Festival tryout!!
  8. I'm not sure if any of the RR kids still play legion at that age group. The local GF legion coaches are hard core 2 hour practices and be there an hour early. That's 3 hours a day. If u miss a practice u sit a game. He gives 2 personal days. Hard to go to other sport camps, go to the lake, church fundtion, vacation or whatever the case may be. If I sound bitter I am. All the better kids have quit and the younger ones will soon to be quitting.
  9. It'll be out soon enough what he did. Remember these are young adults and mistakes are made. I'm older and I guarantee everybody will makes mistakes along the road they regret. I'm sure he's already upset at himself for getting and messing up a second chance.
  10. This year on Central you've got F Grant Johnson, Nick Lund, Cam Olstad and at Red River you've got D Brock Montgomery and F Mason Salquist. All of those guys have done well at USA Festivals but that doesn't mean allot either.
  11. Ive got 2 for sale but may sell one text me at 218-779-9359.
  12. Selling 2 SRO $100 each text 218-779-9359
  13. I've also got 2 SRO south end tickets for tonight's game for sale..txt me at 218-779-9359
  14. Are the games on a radio channel of some sort?
  15. It's funny you say that. I've heard lots of the complaints of Fargo people about this. One thing to consider is at least 5-7 kids left Fargo, regardless of the school, to play AAA hockey in Kansas City. And for the person who said keep state hockey at Scheels....the ice sucks and CAN NOT handle all of the games over a state tourney. Great facility, great atmosphere but only Minot thought the ice was good as they play a slow, trap, chip it out of the zone game.
  16. uh yea it's expensive but how expensive is relative to each person. Like NDSU said above it's allot of travel and this goes on for a long time. Start at 7-8 ends at 16 ish for summer teams and then if they're good enough they still do things after 16. My thoughts...keep him in hockey but don't buy a lake place. I cringe whenever I think about the costs of a lake place I don't seem to get to often enough.
  17. The ice was terrible....never got cold enough to set up. I liked the atmosphere for the kids but the ice was a joke.. Puck was bouncing for three days.
  18. Central will be fine for the next two years as they have a great Sophomore class in both baseball and hockey. Grant's son does graduate but I'm not convinced he quits yet. Still wants to win himself. With open enrollment it's tough for Central as GF is only growing south just like it is for Fargo North, then Fargo South as allot kids go to Davies.
  19. HA!!! At legion you don't have to keep track of your sons stats....the other parents do it for you and then chatter about how their son is getting jobbed : ) Gotta love the parents!!! I was once told in mite hockey to enjoy these times as they're the best because as your son gets older and it's more competitive the parents get more difficult. Wow is that an understatement. I also agree with the other comment...don't keep track of hits etc. as the kids know and they'll let you know how they did each game. Also don't keep track of goals, or yards, catches etc. It's all fun...enjoy the ride!! I've got 3 years left then we'll see what happens.
  20. Also....enjoy it now as it's a blast. Next year there's an all star team for your son in Fargo for 9 year olds so that'll be something for him to shoot for.
  21. Well...so much for that...Fargo has a website also...he will still be Cal Ripken and Fargo has a good BB program. Not sure but also check out fall ball.. I know they had it a few years ago for 12 year olds. And he could move up for that. Even check to see if he could jump on a team right now. Never hurts. If I remember right a lady runs the league and she's awesome with putting information out there.
  22. Here's a link for you to check out. Your son will be Cal Ripken which is a great league and is fun for kids learning the game. My son played all the way up. http://www.gfbaseball.org/
  23. Now that's funny. A friends kid recently had to do the same testing and he did 23 pull-ups and he weigh's 179 pounds
