Wonder how soon it will take to decided the divisions and schedules for 2018 on. My take: if FCS stays at 11, don't add a conference game. 6 division 2 cross-divisional teams rotate If they go to 12, then add a conference game to go 9. 6 division 1 permanent cross-divison "rival" 2 cross-divisional teams rotate

Orangebloods.com says that the Longhorns will be announcing a switch to the B1G in three years. Texas was against expansion, so they must have relented so as to not leave the Big12 up a creek with no teams with big contract potential if UT, OU, and KU all take B1G offers. Sounds like maybe up to four teams will get picked, and two of those might just be football affiliates for a time. The AAC could be devastated, but BYU, Colo St and Air Force could get chosen. UNDBIZ
With all the good Big 12 schools leaving, perhaps Wichita St. will join the Big 12 instead of the imaginary WAC?

The Kansas flagship and land grant will never allow it as long as they are part of the Big 12. Even CUSA wouldn't take on a school that hasn't started football yet as it has too many members for the CFP payout. The American might be tempted, as WSU has strong basketball, but they would normally want a performing FBS team now.

So, the Big 12 is going to be "up a creek" for lack of members, but would nevertheless not admit a potentially viable new member because two of its members want to exclude a potential in-state rival? Really?

Really? Most of the teams in the American are much more valuable than Wichita St. Why would ESPN pay for Wichita St when they have Kansas and Kansas St? Wichita St is just overlap to the B12. It would be like you and Bresciani pushing for Minot St in the Slummit. It blows up your idea that NDSU, which is much less than WSU, can not get a Big12 bid, which really peeves you to no end. Tulsa won't get a bid because of its overlap with Okie programs. SMU won't get a bid because it's in the same metro as TCU. All the other American AC schools will get looks other than Navy. Cincy is the prohibitive favorite for expansion team #1.

The Sicatoka
I believe the Big XII will go after Cincinnati and Memphis to tie to WVU. After that comes the question: Another pair east of the footprint or two of three from (BYU, Boise State, Colorado State).

What I gather from alums that are close to the CU program is there is no chance they will go back to the Big 12. These people obviously do not make those decisions but over the years they seemed to be spot on with their predictions.

SiouxVolley
ESPN and the ACC have announced a new ACC Network. Now the Big 12 is the only P5 conference without a cable network, excepting Texas's Longhorn Network. The Big 12 originally wanted Clemson and Florida St, but the ACC teams signing all Grant of Rights for all schools prevented that for a decade, and now the new ACC network will make the Big12 the slum lord among P5 conferences, excepting the Longhorns of course. Every P5 league having a network begins to water down these networks and create commoditization. The B1G used to have a special thing, now almost everyone does. At some point these networks will begin to lose their value. Ho-hum, the ACC has a network, another channel I won't pay extra for.

bison73
Looks like CCU has hit a snag on its move up. http://www.myrtlebeachonline.com/sports/college/big-south/coastal-carolina-university/article75945117.html “We did make the commitment to the Sun Belt Conference, which requires the stadium expansion. Our failure to meet that commitment could result in a number of things, the first being the negative media coverage that will hurt Coastal Carolina University for years,” DeCenzo continued in his opening address. “We have contracts with power-five schools which will pay us over $1 million per game; without being FBS we will never see that money, and worse yet we may have to break those contracts, which would result in a financial liability to us. “But most importantly are the 25 recruits that we signed this year, eight of whom are from South Carolina. They start Coastal in the fall. Our failure to move this project along means our inability to meet NCAA requirements is in jeopardy, as would be our FBS standing. As a result we’d have to tell those 25 athletes that we cannot afford them the full scholarship they were promised when they signed with Coastal Carolina University. That to me would be the biggest tragedy of all.”

Your article is from the beginning of May. CCU (in a roundabout, backdoor type way) got what they needed to continue moving the project forward approved in June and are hoping to move to bidding by the end of the summer. ECU has a big football stadium that looks good on TV, but their other sports basically suck. ECU is really the only football first school in NC, although Appy St is too but with only a short time in FBS. ECU as a football only member of the Big12 makes some TV sense and WVU would want it, but no other Big12 school. See alot more ECU stuff than NCSU stuff in Tenn, but there are plenty of Tar Heel t-shirt fans around. Wouldn't surprise me if OU, UT, and KU could be invited to the B1G after their GoR's expire later, which is why the Big12 agreed to expand. Sounds like Cincy, Memphis, Houston, and BYU will all get Big12 offers. BYU might get a football only one, as their other teams can't play on Sundays. The AAC would lose three teams, and they backfill with at least one. Rice is almost assured of an offer. Old Dominion might be another choice. Wichita St could be a non football choice, as Navy is football only. That would throw a wrench in the WAC FBS plans and that might be what is the holdup. Wichita St could then have a four or five year plan for AAC FBS. If ODU gets an AAC offer, JMU would probably get aa CUSA offer.
