The Sicatoka
State law says UND can't pick a new moniker until Jan 2015. That newspaper (from Macon, GA) more than likely assumed from there.

No, the state law says they can't "use" the new name until Jan 2015...they can pick one today if they wanted to.

Or they could at least start the long process of picking a new name. The sooner they start the vetting process, the better.

jdub27
The head of this committee? Me no likey that job. Double edge sword. Don't want to be the one making the decision but concerned about what the make-up of the committee could be if too many people feel that way...
Popular Post The Sicatoka
The head of this committee? Me no likey that job. I'll take the job in a heartbeat. The heat of the job would be better than having done nothing and seeing some 'kumbaya' moniker show up.
Siouxphan27
Lets go with the UND Straightsons. When playing our old conference foe from Fargo....well, you figure out the rest.

johndahl
I'm trying to come up with a nickname related to Orion the Hunter. That's the constellation that appears in in mid-August, dominates the fall and winter and spring, but is out of sight by late April, until the following August. They put Orion into the ship's patch for the USS NORTH DAKOTA. Interesting that the logo also features Roughriders in text and Nakota horses at the edges of the sky. The Sicatoka
I believe UND's next moniker is somewhere in that logo. I can't prove it; just a gut feeling.

Due to our nations current P.C. situation, I would doubt we see revolvers in the new logo, but I do like it.

Siouxperfan7
What about the University of North Dakota "Tomahawks". Sure it has a Native American connotation, but can anyone really get offended by a University using an inanimate object for a nickname?!! The Sicatoka
A tomahawk is an ax. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tomahawk_(axe) (And that's something on there that had me thinking also. )
darell1976
A tomahawk is an ax. http://en.wikipedia....i/Tomahawk_(axe) (And that's something on there that had me thinking also. ) Tomahawk creates tomahawk chop, which equals pissed off Indians and protests and we don't want to go down that road again. MafiaMan
Let's just go with University of North Dakota. It's suddenly not without precedent as the Long Beach State 49'ers have announced that they are effectively dropping their nickname and will just be known as "Beach." I kid you not.
