  2. I have a friend who used to work with Brad at the Herald. I’ve met Brad a couple times but we are not friends. I can tell you that his professionalism as a journalist is of the highest standard. College hockey as a whole is fortunate to have a guy like Brad working as a beat writer.

  3. How is everyone doing here? I just thought I would come check to see if it was as bad as our little community on GPL. BTW... Cannot wait to be at The Ralph this fall. We had a great time last time we visited. The staff is always so accommodating and most if the fans are great too. Makes me really look forward to another trip.

  4. Most of us on this board couldn't be bigger fans/supporters of UND athletes. That said, I unfortunately agree with you. I could write a pretty nice check annually (like many on the board), but I just don't see that happening. It feels like ponying up to try to maintain the status quo, with no personal return on investment or societal benefit. This is supposed to be fun and entertaining to take my mind off actual life for a while. My donations will continue to go to local causes that hopefully better the community, not some highly skilled 18-year-old mercenary who doesn't care about UND and is just looking for the highest # as a stopping point along the way to greener pastures. I don't know if I'm in the minority on this, but from my perspective it's sad.

  5. No, he should not. It serves no purpose. When you are privileged to be allowed “inside”, you have an obligation to keep certain things “in the family”. That includes guys like Schlossman, Hennessy, Poolman, team medical staff, locker room staff etc.

  6. Anyone else sick of this crap? College hockey isn't even college hockey anymore, it's a completely different sport when you aren't recruiting a kid to develop them into the best player/person they can be. You're recruiting your commits, your recruiting other teams' players, your recruiting your own players so they don't leave. It's wild. All of it points to a GM position like Schloss brought up with Chyzyk, a head coach can't possibly keep up with all of it and still find the time to develop a strategy to break UMD's forecheck the following week.

  7. I would love to see BU buy their team this year and then either miss the tourney or lose in their first round game.

  8. Chavez has been nothing short of incompetent but having your home grown talent basically give the WBB program and the athletic department the middle finger is inexcusable. The optics of this is the worst thing under Chavez leadership to date

  10. Schloss breaks news not just for UND but for college hockey as a whole. As Warren Buffett once said, it takes a lifetime to build a reputation but only a moment to ruin it. Don't expect him to do the latter for gossip.

  11. I’ve never understood how UND (and U of Mn) missed on these 2 guys. If these guys were at UND, I believe we would have easily been in the tournament and Berry would be safe at least for another year. H Slukynsky can carry a team and can win games when the rest of the team isn’t playing well. G Slukynsky is obviously a very good forward who was an outstanding HS player and continues to improve each year. The recruiting decisions need to be made with a vision for the future of the program. Taking an older brother, who you see as maybe a 4th line guy, to improve the chance, if not guarantee, you will get the younger brother makes sense. Maintaining a strong Warroad to UND relationship is another reason to take the older brother, especially when the older brother has demonstrated leadership skills and comes from a winning culture.

  22. My dad tells a funny story of how back in the 1970’s Michigan State was in town for a WCHA hockey series. Well, apparently, after the game, a bunch of Spartans players got drunk and thought it would be a great idea to kick out the windows of the JC Penny store that was then downtown. The players got hauled off to jail and my dad represented the JC Penny company. With the players in jailhouse jumpsuits at court on Monday, the JC Penny management decided that they did not wish to see the players’ careers hurt over their bone headed mistake so they offered that if the players paid for the damages, no charges would be filed. My dad said the coach, Amo Bessone, was all smiles in the court room and gladly agreed to my dad’s client’s proposal. I can only imagine the kind of punishment Coach dolled out at practice when they returned to East Lansing Lol. Anyway, back to our regularly scheduled programming. I thought this would be a fun story to share to lighten the mood around here given all the bad news we’ve been enduring today.

  25. Schloss gets crapped on too much. His conventional and cautious nature says more about the University and the Program than it does him. "Toe the line, we'll give you access. If you don't, bye bye"

  26. For the record Dane's going to be a hell of a coach. Most of you will bitch and moan about it but give the guy a chance. He's paid his dues, could've left multiple times.

  31. So in summary - Our program is a underachieving mess and we fire the coach. Then we had a chance to go with a young up and comer to turn this program around but elected to go with a coach who has been with the program for 19 years after supposedly a bunch of players said they would leave if he wasn't hired. We hire him and then almost all of our studs promptly leave. You can't make this up. We have to be the most inbred athletic program in the country.

  32. I think this team can still compete --and win-- in the NCHC and nationally. They just need a team that can buy into the team and play together as a cohesive unit. This past years UND team certainly lacked both of those. Look at a team like WMU. They had Bump and Hampton essentially as "studs". PSU? Other than Fink, I can't name a single player on Penn State's team. Yet both those teams made the F4 this year. These schools that load up on first round players are fun to watch for sure, but none of them have won a title in the last decade +. I'm sure Boisvert will have a fine season in Boston next year, but odds are that he won't win a title there and then he'll sign next year at this time. Jackson has some work cut out for him this offseason, for sure. But I'm still interested to see the product that he puts on the ice next fall...if they can play better under him than they did for Berry the last few years.

  33. The teams that are left in the tournament show you can win both ways, with a bunch of high end guys and guys that just become a team and will work for what is best for the team. Western and Penn State don't have the big time recruits, and neither did UConn or UMass, yet all of them made a run. UND should be able to get enough high end guys to make a run, but only if they can get all the guys to buy in and work together as a team rather than a bunch of individuals that have their own self interests in mind.

We need piss and vinegar...chippas that will chew nails to get on the pp...grindaz who would rather go to prison than surrender the zone... Sioux hockey...blood and guts and thunder and lightning, sweet and nasty. Hard, Heavy, Fast, Skilled, Mean....

  40. Like many others, I’m starting to come around and get on board with Dax. He wasn’t my first choice, as some magical fresh start and mystery candidate that would blow us away was so appealing. But, mostly I was just frustrated with what we’ve seen most of the last decade. It’s requiring me to put away my Internet ego, that even though I know I don’t have the facts, I somehow know better than the AD & Martinson, previous & existing players, NHL/AHL GM’s, (rumor) Hak’s endorsement, etc. Some food for thought for those pissed that the “players are holding this decision hostage“.. these players: 1) know hockey at an elite level with exposure to the best, and worst of coaches out there, 2) are deeply personally invested in their development, skills, and ability to get to the next level 3) get to see Jax every day, and are giving their full vote of confidence that they’d rather play for him than any other coach in the country (college or next-level of pro), 4) know that he is going to be no nonsense and push them extremely hard, but are still willing to run through a wall for him, 5) came to UND to WIN, and 6) know exactly what is, and isn’t, going on within that locker room including Barry being out, and are getting immediately behind Jax. I’m not saying that the players should be able to make the decision or should make threats about the outcome, but why shouldn’t they have an important voice in the hiring decision of who’s the right guy to lead them and their peers? To me, this makes them a very reliable indicator of who’s the right man for the job. If you lineup all of those points above, they hit on nearly everything that we as a fan base want to see in the next head coach, and the players certainly know better than any of us what they’re getting with him. The biggest thing still remaining for me is can he modernize the game and make the decisions that will keep them at an elite level, given all of his recent experience is executing the systems and product that we’ve been seeing and are frustrated with. I’m cautiously optimistic his choices in the staff he builds around him will be enough to put this to rest. Plus as an added bonus, the guy will work harder than anyone, bleeds green, and if he does find big success.. is much more likely to stick around and continue it vs. just using it to quickly leapfrog into the NHL.

  41. I disagree 100%, I believe this team has all of the tools to be successful with the right guy at the top. This team and Jax is going to prove a lot of you wrong.

  42. I wonder if Chaves had a visit with the team as if it was a school class. "Okay class we have fired your teacher. Do you want your teacher's assistant to be your new teacher or should we bring in someone else?"

  43. There had better be modernization in play style or this will have been a fool’s errand.

  46. Not surprised the players feel that way (they don't have to change anything-status quo). Not surprised the podcasters feel that way since they played for him. The local beat writer & most of the current & former players favor Jackson-somebody stop the presses! A high-end hockey school requires a national search so the best possible option can be had. Making a decision based on familiarity is staying in the shallow end of the pool. If Jackson turns out to be the best candidate, so be it, but the AD needs to do an exhaustive search first to eliminate all other possibilities; to ensure that UND gets the best available guy.

  48. So other than a law degree , a ushl GM of the year award, professional hockey experience, and universally loved by a ton of former players , what really qualifies him to be an assistant coach or even associated with a full time job at the D1 level
