Figured this topic warranted it’s on thread.

SS to the portal. Rucker soon to follow?

You should update it as both leaving and new players signing.

A lot of respect for SS. Like the look of our RB room now. Colt, Chuck and the gang can hold it down. I am selfish and want them all to stay. Can’t blame them if they want to live out an FBS dream.  Really want Ruck back!

I respect SS and his ability and will truly miss him if true. That said, his size will be a factor wherever he goes if FBS.  Not sure it's in his best interest, but NIL can be a big influence. Good luck.

FB may have to chat with Jax and hockey:

  • Play the exceptional raw talents young because you might only have them two or three seasons.
  • But don't forget about the four year core guys that take more time.

I can.

They can get to the big leagues (NFL, CFL) via UND with what we now got.

“Portal-ing” just to ride the bench at a mid-FBS school falters away pro chances and is potentially foolish. They’ll get some quick “life-changing money” as people call it, but spend it all in a few years and it will ultimately mean nothing.

Making it to the NFL should be the real goal, and if you transfer and end up 3rd or 4th on the depth chart, good luck with that. Where do you think you are more valued? The place you’re recruited to and developed or the place that values you as a potential quick fix on the depth chart?

I’m not gonna be all happy go lucky about players entering the portal to leave UND as apparently some others will be …

Agreed.  But in the case of someone like SS, he's never going to the NFL, so I understand the push to make money while he can.

We have plenty of RB depth so I'm not real worried I guess.  Sorry to see you go, next man up.

I can see those with deep pockets donating to nil

for the average fan it’s hard enough to pay for tickets, travel for out of town fans and feeding the family on game day

guess I’m old fashion but if someone wants to leave that’s fine, I’m just can’t see me paying them to stay

I wish them well

One of the reasons this is getting worse is agents are contacting these players to “represent” them. They are telling kids and players families that they have contacts with coaches and teams at all college levels and can help guide them through the portal and get them money.

I have no faith in the NCAA, but if they wanted to regain some control, they would require players leaving or the schools accepting portal transfers, to reimburse the schools whose players transfer through the portal the cost of that players scholarship (not additional funds or NIL funds unless required by legal contract). Others on this forum have stated same or similar.

It can be almost intoxicating for a kid and their families to here how their son/daughter needs an agent and that agent will find them a school that will give them NIL money and better position them to get to the NFL.  $50,000- $100,000 is a lot of money but usually not “life changing”.    The college degree should be more life changing and few agents discuss it unless the player or parents bring it up

I’m afraid we have more than Rucker and Seidel to be concerned about.  Hang on, this ride can get rocky

Yep.  Look at me!!  Basically year by year at this point, no such thing as a commitment for most.  Some do honor their commitment and that's commendable.

It went from indentured servitude for these players to Wild West free agency. Time for some guardrails around some of this and some sensible middle ground.
