Your entire argument about SOS was touting ndsu’s SOS being close to UND’s by using all of D1 teams.   Why is that stat relevant especially considering ndsu played zero FBS games.
But yes, despite mentioning them, you never mentioned ndsu. lol.

To be fair nobody will schedule ndsu with their history of beating FBS teams.

To be fair, that's not completely accurate.

They struggle to get the games they claim they can't but part of it is because they can't get the terms they ask for. They have turned down FBS games in the past because they felt the offers weren't good enough, which is will within their right to do. Also, tough to blame them to turn down what they feel is a low offer when they can make more money hosting a cupcake.

I have no doubt their phone isn't ringing off the hook, but there is plenty of leaning into the "no one will schedule us" narrative.

The majority of the games that are large sum paid ware from Big10 teams as well who put a policy in place for a few years to stop scheduling FCS teams after SDSU, NDSU, and USD all had wins against the Big 10. The Big10 stated it was due to scheduling conflict with needing to add more conference games but sure. The smaller teams that otherwise USD and UND played their first 5-10 years after rising to FCS were smaller paydays from small FBS teams. Not sure what the profit is from a sold out home game, but also pretty sure a NDSU would make more at home against Drake then they would on the road at Bowling Green, or San Diego.

Otherwise all the big time FBS programs typically schedule teams in their state or region of available. Cost for travel is lower and with majority of recruits from these regions it excite some of them to get a chance to go in and smack the teams who passed over them in the mouth.

I'm sure NDSU can find games against FBS schools if they go and request to be scheduled stating they will drop the normal desired payout. Not sure what past games they have received vs FBS vs other similar FBS payouts to the other MVFC teams. I'm sure some of them would love games where they don't have to give away money just to play a non conference game.

Also they seem to rotate through their opponents. UND I don't believe has played Minnesota yet and won't until 2028 and 2030. Not really sure why they played LA Northwestern state but they have already played USD, SDSU and NDSU in years past. So even getting 2 games each against them took 6 years plus the 2015-2017 Big10 scheduling freeze.

How does that support Slow’s argument?  If anything it makes his use of FBS rankings even sillier.

We want SDSU to beat ISU-R, correct? How about USD vs SIU?

Understood that UND needs to win their next two, but any other results we are cheering for next weekend?

I think we want USD to lose. It would give them a fifth loss, so if we win out we are not in a position of being tied with them overall record wise with a head-to-head loss.

As for SDSU, you could argue it either way. If they lose, they are going to be completely deflated when they come to the Alerus with four straight losses and probably zero confidence. If they win, they probably start feeling good about themselves for the first time in about a month, but it would make a UND win against them look better.

Generally, if you play any opponent, regardless if you win or lose, you want that team to win their other games to make your resume look better.  In the case of SIU and USD, I think would go with SUI.  If we ended up with the same record as either of those teams, we have a tie-breaker with SIU and not USD.  I think the same logic holds for SDSU and ISU-red.  We play the Jacks, but not the Birds, so it would look better when we beat SDSU in the last game.

I want the jack to lose because I hate them.  Would love to see them end the year on a 5 games losing streak.  I can't see how we wouldn't be in at 8-4 with 2 of the loses to the #1 and #2 ranked teams in the country and a 3rd to an FBS team.  If we are 7-5 and don't get in, so be it.  Probably don't deserve to be in if that the case.

I wonder if there is still an outside chance of a top 8 seed if we win out and some weird things happen in front of us.

I would think so if UND finishes alone in 2nd place in the conference at 8-4. Using that logic, we want SIU and SDSU to win next week.

yes, provided we smoke Murray State and beat SD State handily.  There is room for us to move upward as some there will lose.  UND has one of the top SOS in FCS.

I agree with that. As playoff committee is going to look at the season as a whole. Where rankings sometimes depend on your last few games. If we beat SDSU pretty easily, I think we will be at least considered for top 8.

Not to mention those three losses are by a total of 9 points.

That is a game that was supposed to be played when Trey Lance was here and got moved due to COVID.

There are definitely challenges for NDSU scheduling wise, it's just the fact of the matter.
