That could be true. KEM could have done the same. Who knows. Something that I have been thinking about and I don’t know what the right answer is. When do you release a college hockey coach and have the time to make the best hire? It’s not right that the portal opens before the tournament is over. You don’t have the time unless you already made your decision before the end of the season who is going to be the replacement. It sucks.

Speaking of KEM...
Wasn't there a rumor about her making some NIL donations?

I believe the portal opens the minute the head coach leaves.

I remember reading that someone had posted that she would be making an announcement about a NIL donation. Will that be made public next week?

Pretty sure we just let a middle of the pack team hold a coaching hiring decision hostage. Or we cheaped out and took the easy route. Not sure which is worse.

Or its what the alumni from the past 19 years wanted.

Well can't say I'm shocked since there was plenty of forewarning that it was going to be DJ. My pick would've been Herter based on the finalist list. However, what's done is done. #At the end of the day, I support this team. Let's see what DJ can do. I'll put my pitchfork in the shed. :)

Uh, so you're upset our best defenseman is coming back and is excited about the team?

Yeah...not sure on that one.
Jake will win some year-end awards next season.  What's not to be excited as a fan about his return?

Maybe they were an upper tier team held back by an outdated coaching system?

The quotes.  How they were all set to leave unless Dane got it.  This roster is average at best but in true UND hockey fashion they think they’re better than they are.

I agree I think Berrys system held development of the team

I am guessing the player support was a big reason they picked Jackson

So we'll revisit this in 365 days and make our assessment of how dumb/smart that was

How would Jackson update the coaching system?  He has never been anywhere else and is part of the old system.

The senior class was definitely dead weight. Them gone will free up the line chart for better players.

Hiring some fresh assistants will be a big first step.  Getting Bryn on board as a GM would be another to help navigate roster management and NIL.

Dane articulated a very clear plan in the modern landscape of Division I athletics and we look forward to supporting him in achieving the goals that he has set out for the program

I feel like whoever made that post was more wishful thinking than matter of fact.

I think a lot of people are worried that it is just going to be more of the same with Jax. I am a bit surprised how many people are less than pleased with the hire. Jax has to change things up otherwise it’s going to be a short tenure.

Agree...3 years and he's gone if things don't turn around.

So in the same sense, Berry was under Hak, so things should have continued?  I hope Jackson uses all the tools and knowledge from Hak and other people he knows in the hockey world and takes the best of each.  New assistants could help bring new ideas, fresh perspective, and a closer relational tie to the players.
