Me too.  I wonder if any other NCAA programs have a GM role?  Or if those responsibilities all fall on the coaching staff.
UND needs to make it happen.

Not sure about Hockey but several football programs do. need to manage the salary cap.

Yep and Schmidt hired one this time around. Was something he felt was important and really fought for

Tomorrow will be Black Monday regardless of what happens.   Either Berry gets fired or he doesn't and the Black cloud over this program continues to hover every day he is still coaching at UND.

So are we confident if it doesn’t happen tomorrow that it just won’t happen? I mean I would imagine you want to get it done with.

Look at basketball for reference

Is it Berry not willing to change or not knowing how to. He knows his record and at the beginning of the season he alluded to it. The offense he runs it very stagnant and doesn’t produce. He keeps bringing it up first to three but he doesn’t get the team there. If Berry stays does he bring in someone who can coach a aggressive offense and PK or does he believe his way is the right way.

I think you mean Mr Tom Clifford.

;)

The nuanced hockey knowledge is what draws most to ss.com, but it's the humor which makes them stay.

So, Schlossman isn’t going to ask / pose the question about Berry’s future? At least Miller asked Bubba following the Illinois State game. I hope more and more realize what a disservice he provides to his readers. Can you ask Chaves a question? It’s gotten completely embarrassing.

You're pretty articulate with the pen, write him an email & ask him why he's usually dancing around sensitive issues with the hockey program. You'll likely be ignored like I was when I asked him something on X one time, but at least he's being put on notice when more people write & tell him that his Disney-style reporting isn't doing his readers any service, let alone the program. It takes just a few minutes to pick up the phone & ask Chaves about BB's status for next year...maybe sensitive issues like this are never reported because he's known BB around 20 years & he may very well be a personal friend of his, who knows, just a theory.

I think it would stay the same...it hasn't changed in a decade now, why switch it up now?  :glare:

Good points. If BB had the insight & courage to flip his style of coaching 180 degrees to make it more suitable for today's game, he probably would have already done it by now. Meaning he's stuck in his ways. Instead of adjusting his approach, he gets a bigger hammer to try & fit a square peg (his style) in a round hole (today's game).

And it doesn't help matters if his assistants are agreeing with his approach or not saying anything because they don't want to rock the boat. Like when benching Croal in favor of Montgomery last Friday, makes me wonder if any of them approached him & advised him that doing so was putting the team at a disadvantage.

Was being serious about that, many here have good insights into the game.

Was joking more about the humor part keeping people here, ribbing @brianvf a little.

We all need a little more humor in our lives.
We certainly can't rely on UND hockey post-season games to keep us entertained any longer.

I wonder if basketball was a wait and see for hockey to make a decision.

Was wondering the same thing. It looks like they may lame duck 3 coaches next year… Talk about basically punting and giving up for a year in 3 of your main sports.

Chaves contract runs through June 2026. Do they get rid of Chaves soon, let all 3 coaches contracts expire and then let the new AD hire all the new coaches?

No idea how this will all play out

Yes, this shows Berry’s stubbornness when it comes to his pets.  Rather than play someone who is younger and with reps has a bigger upside, he plays a guy with the worst +/- on the team.
Not only that he does it for two different positions, one in which Montgomery just started to play this year.  If your recruiting is that bad that your depth can’t beat out a guy who just started playing the position, you’ve got problems to begin with.  The trouble is you are letting him play over a young guy, Komzak who is 8 goals better +/-, and for forward, he plays over someone with 13 goals better, in Littler.

Even if things were equal, why wouldn’t you be playing for the future and the bigger upside?  We all know the answer to that is Berry’s nice guy loyalty to guys that don’t have as much talent but have worked hard over the years.  Berry gets what he deserves under those circumstances.

Nationally there is a big bias towards hoops and football.  NFL talent like Carson Wentz...how about NHL talent like Johnny f'ing Toews

Or Parise or Oshie or even a Matt Greene (one of my all-time favorites in NCAA n NHL - played mean n very hard to play against) and so on and so on

The latest they can change out an AD would be around December IMHO. In this current climate, you have to have a new HC in place almost immediately after you announce their predecessor’s dismissal. Basketball and hockey can’t have lame duck coaches during their respective early portal windows. Hopefully the way they handled football proves Armacost understands this dynamic.

If Texas can fire it's head basketball  coach after 3 years which included 3 NCAA tournament appearances and one Elite 8, UND should do the same as Berry’s record isn't that impressive the last three years.  1 tourney appearances and no wins

Hak should be convinced to come back. He bleeds Sioux hockey so it’s not about the money. He needs to bring in some young new-age coaches that we can set up for the future coaching hires
