UND @ Indiana State 11/2/24

Unless a miracle happens and we win two of the next three games, this just feels different. There have been embarrassing moments for UND football under Bubba, but I now feel as embarrassed as I did in Mussmans last year. I have seen a lot of people on Facebook also commenting publicly on the North Dakota football game score updates the last two weeks that they think Bubba needs to go. Maybe those are the same 40 that are on here saying that I dunno. But I think there are a lot of people who want Bubba gone. There is just no defense to losing either 4 or 5 of the last games of the year.

Contracts mean nothing. UND fired Muss with years left on his contract. Will be a miracle if we go 6-6 this year. Unfortunately it’s gonna take another losing season or losses playoffs to make Chaves think about making the change.  The road record is what it is. And you can’t have that lack of success on the road and be the 4th best team in the Dakotas and expect to keep your job.

The time has come to move on from Bubba. Everyone knows it.

You can fire him but you still pay him.   Muss coached after that as a coordinator, Mankato?   But UND paid the difference from what he was owed to what he got at his new job.   And Bubba isn't getting a new gig somewhere.

4 Outcomes after this year I see

1) Bubba age 62 retires which I wish he does (odds are no)

2) gets fired (too much money)

3) let go defensive coordinator and maybe one or to other coaches (most likely)

- if this happens odds he will promote Dosch (I hope he does not promote within)

- ideally some new coordinator/staff, if this happens, I hope with NFL or Upper FCS or FBS experience. Then they should recruit athletes needed for D1

4) I can’t fathom staff remains in tact.

I stress the players have not quit, they are giving their all, staff (defensive side especially) is not putting them in situations for success. The problem is either coaching (scheme and or fundamentals) and or recruiting. Once again players are playing with effort.

The players aren’t playing with focus or enthusiasm at critical times, though, despite some saying they are. The team is lost. Need new leadership in order to implement the culture needed to complete with NDSU and SDSU.

I do almost want us to lose thr final 3 now. However I don't think even losing 5 in a row to end the season will prompt much change,  other than Bubba letting DC go to be the scape goat.

You have to believe! I do! 5 in a row will do it. 1 loss at a time.

If it meant Bubba getting fired I'd take losing to the South Dakota schools by 50 each at home.

It was nice to see all groups O/D/ST on the team contributing to the loss..

fumbles.. interceptions for TDs.. dropped punts.. sacks.. typical crap defense.. some of the worst tackling I have seen.. ending the game on 2 sacks..

what a team effort on the loss.. Isaiah was awesome.. the rest of them really struggled.  This is the definition of a team that can’t win on the road.. whether it’s lack of preparation or they are just in their own heads.. who knows.  It really is hard to watch. Constantly just waiting for them to screw up.  Over and over had the chance to win.. just kept screwing it up.

should have been an easy game.. but we spotted them 14 pts and then didn’t make the easy plays.. really hard to watch.

Seems like everybody that follows the program knows what the problem is except the person who oversees UND Athletics.  Time for a change starting at the top.

Agreed

We can complain all we want on this board …… I have done so nearly week for 8 years… but that goes nowhere. We are small number of diehard fans with a small voice on a message board.  I think the only people with “pull” to make a change is alumni and donors.  Chavez could care less what is being said on a message board but when it hits the pocket …..then and only then would he consider a change .   But right now the diehards are still attending games and bubba is cheap.  Money coming in added to a cheap coach =Chavez is living the dream.  He feels no heat or consequences until alumni make the calls and the money starts drying up.

The problem is, hockey has troubles too it would appear.  Chaves will be under more pressure to fix problems over there and it will cost a lot more money on the hockey side.   No way will Chaves do anything about football.

Those that want Chaves gone, remember that Muss was hired by the interim right after Buning was moved out.   Do it right this time.

Would that be a bad thing?

Absolutely. If the coach is the problem (some say the failures are entirely on him), then a new coach is all that’s needed.
I believe we aren’t that far from having the personnel capable of winning so I don’t want to lose guys to the portal. Too often, teams lose a number of their best or potentially best players to the portal, so yeah, I think it’s a bad thing. Losing the next 3 games is also a bad thing.  Regardless of coaching change, these players need to play up to their full potential and establish a “winning culture”.  It’s not easy once you accept losing as OK for any reason.

I will say that leadership and direction from the coaching staff is critical in developing a winning culture. Players leave every 2 to 5 years no matter what, and new players come in. It is even more frequent now in the era of the transfer portal.

The one constant is the coaching staff, and I think developing and maintaining a winning accountable culture is significantly dependent on the head coach and his actions and message.
