I love the optimism.  I can’t imagine us being in the range of 15 this year although there will be many opportunities to prove it.

i would like some of the same kool aid that you are drinking.. serious question.. what gives you optimism that we are a top 15 team this year?

As we know the distance between 1-4 and the rest of the field is large. If D improves, I think our O will be fine. Some nice pedigrees on O.

A few categories to consider on the path to 6-6.

3 - Win or shoot yourself in the head games - Idaho St at Home, San Diego at Home, Murray St. at Home.

1 - Tossup game - Indiana State on the Road

4 - Not likely but need 2 games - Griz at Home, UNI at Home, Coyotes at Home, Ill St. on the Road.

4 - No past indicators of a Victory games - Iowa St on the Road, NDSU on the Road, Youngstown on the Road, Jacks at Home.

We did beat YSU on the road last time we played

To get to the meat of the equation.

Where will UND be better?

Where will UND be the same?

Where will UND be worse?

1. qb

2. coaches

3. defense

Are there any guys on defense that are poised to breakout? I’m a big Pedigo guy but he’s already broke-out, imo. The two Moorhead kids, Teiken and Dixon, were highly touted. I have heard good things about Erkman. Rucker had flashes as a true freshman. McNeal finally got pretty consistent playing time.

Feels like we are just really lacking on the line but there’s some decent prospects beyond that. Could be missing some.

Here's what I got. There were a few teams that really were hit hard by graduation / portal (ISU-B, Youngstown, UNI). Some that weren't.

  • 4 - Win or season over - Idaho St at home, San Diego at home, Murray St. at home, at ISU-B
  • 4 - Tossup games - UNI at home, at Youngstown, USD at home, at Illinois State
  • 1 - Not Likely - Montana at Home
  • 3 - No past indicators of Victory games - Iowa St on the Road, NDSU on the Road, Jacks at Home

Disagree with this one.  UND under Bubba is different at home.  See Spring of 2021 vs the Jacks, 2023 vs NDSU and the toss up game vs NDSU in Fall on 2021. As will as many others over the years.

Only 2 game with no chance of victory are at NDSU and at Iowa St.

Playcalling (fewer trickerations)

Underperforming against weak teams

QB ... I said it; you don't replace an experienced starter easily. Expect more picks against.

Jerry is going to be slinging the rock chuckin' the pigskin all over the field and lead us to the promise land!

Yes, Playoffs are a problem.  After I posted I thought about going back and editing, but didn't.

Overall his record against good teams at home is pretty good.  Road record regardless of quality of opponent is poor.

According to at least one....Jerry was ready to take over the team last year. Can you imagine what he'll do with a whole year under his belt. :silly:

Whether it's Trey or Jerry, there will be some growing pains with a new starter and I'd expect more interceptions than Tommy had. However stronger arm and hopefully some more deep balls along with a QB that can potentially scramble for positive yards more often Im hoping more than offsets those initial growing pains.

It will certainly be interesting to watch though how it all plays out after having the same starter for four years. Will we be missing Tommy.....or feel like Yes....now we are more explosive.

Very much agree on the QB part. I have a feeling we will like the new QB but as you put it dislike some decisions.

Not sure there was THAT much trickeration last season.

No comment on the D?

When I see some played I'll comment on it.

I will be happy with progress. Like if a 3rd and 17 isn't a 50/50 proposition.

Coaching matters. No reason for excitement, unless new OC hire is destined for FBS program in 1-2 years.

Even if he hit on the OC and OL hires it may not matter. All comes down to the defense next year IMO.

Don’t have to tell me twice. I’m not expecting good things in 2024. Already sort of pissed I renewed my season tickets, but figured after having them for decades, I better continue with it. Figured I’d type something sort of positive, since I’m routinely hated on here for being so pessimistic (i.e., realistic).

I don't think anyone hates you,  many agree with your assessments regarding the game & team.  For me it's your attacking fans, over and over and over....  makes me want to watch soccer.
