2023 Early Departures & Portal Transfers

Nice. There it is. Starting to shape up now. 
I was hoping either Persson or Haider. 
Big plus is Persson has two years of eligibility remaining.

After going in the transfer portal, Persson said he decided early that he wanted to remain in the NCHC.

"There were a lot of phone calls in the beginning," Persson said. "Once I kind of figured out and understood what opportunity I could get at North Dakota, and how much I liked it, it was an easy decision."

Ludvig a big time get.  Guy is used to getting hung out to dry, with little offensive support.

I wonder...being that Persson has two years of eligibility remaining...do they delay Hedquist one more season (he still has one year of junior eligibility remaining) and bring in another goalie recruit or portal guy in a backup role?
It's either that, or Hedquist spends his first two years as a backup at UND gaining some college experience (rather than being the go-to guy in juniors) and takes over the reigns his JR season.

I wouldn't be surprised either way.

Persson will be 24 when the season starts so not guaranteed that he will be around for 2 years.  I'd bring in Hedquist and sprinkle as much as you can next season.

Yeah that's true. 
Although, if a 25yo goalie can lead UMN to the Frozen Four, one can lead UND there as well.

Call me crazy, but I think the key to becoming a better team is landing recruits (transfers) from better teams.

I can't get excited about UNDs new #1 goalie from the last place NCHC team that won three conference games last year.

At least persson is used to having no defense.  He will feel right at home here.

I see that a gopher fan tweeted a reply to Schloss’ announcement about Persson, quoting his numbers and laughing. Clearly this person has absolutely no clue about the kind of goaltender he is and the fact he played on some absolutely gawd awful teams.

If it doesn't happen in the B1G, they don't know and/or care about it.

Persson and Haider were the two best goalies in the portal. 
And if you've watched Persson play, you know he's a quality goalie.

I think this is a great pickup.

The UND fans sitting in front of me at the X asked me why it was 5 on 5 OT against St Cloud…let’s not poke fun of other fans.  We have our own clueless group.

DeRidder would have worked out great if he played like '2nd Half DeRidder' all season instead of putting '1st Half DeRidder' in the mix.

Count me one as who was not at all excited over DeRidder after seeing him at Michigan State and I actually thought he would end up backing up Hellsten for much of the year but Hellsten never could find any consistency either

On Persson I like him much more than I did DeRidder but I was all in on Haider first and foremost so unless they went after him and got told he was interested I'm a little disappointed
