The gold standard for attendance was either the NCAA D-2 Quarterfinal vs GVSU in 2004 or the D-2 Semifinal vs UC-Davis in 2001. We have some work to do before we get back to that level of enthusiasm.

Idk what yall keep chirping about. The Alerus has pretty much had consistent attendance for the past 10 years.

When the Alerus first opened, we had about a month of evening home games and the place was packed. But Lennon kept bitching about not liking night games and that was the end of it. We need to go back to evening games when it doesn't conflict with hockey.

Since Halloween 2018, UND is 16-1 at home with the lone loss to FCS superpower North Dakota State by six points.

 

If just winning was the simple solution, as some on here claim, then UND/Alerus Center should be seeing sellouts. That’s not the case. 
 

Perhaps start winning on the road and attendance will boost?

 

it goes beyond that; Alerus Center needs to change things. It’s okay, just not great, right now. The intro could be way more energetic and suspenseful. But that’s just a minor thing that wouldn’t influence attendance. Bigger picture, a construction project that lets in natural light would maybe be a more expensive but more promising way to boost the Alerus Center atmosphere.

Students were there, but it’s not like the student section was busting at the seams. Was it empty, no. But certainly could still be better. (And that goes for everyone, not just the e students.

And if we take that approach to the program, it never will be. The 2001-2005 period proved that FB can be a player in this athletic department. But we have to think outside the box to get there.

That’s why I drive many miles to attend games

thats why I ask who is promoting the program

if you asked the average joe on Grand Forks streets what time the game is they wouldn’t know we had a game

Going to the Alerus on a Saturday to watch the Hawks is just not the thing to do in Grand Forks on a Saturday.  It's sad, but its reality.  It starts with the students, athletic department needs to get and keep them more engaged with the football team.

This ^^^ is true.

All of GF will never be UND football fans, for a variety of many reasons.
We need about an additional 3 to 4K local fans to get behind the team enough to start coming to the games, some of which should become season ticket holders. There are these fans in town, we somehow need to encourage and motivate them to be at the games?

Not everybody in GF likes hockey either. Those are the people we need to reach. Everyone has their own particular interests and tastes; some people may be more inclined to go to football games. But you have to have the marketing to attract them. And our efforts in that area are abysmal at best.

Actually, the athletic department, the alumni office, the chamber of commerce, city and county leaders, the faculty, and the local and regional media can all be part of a concerted effort to improve and publicize UND events and other local events. We can find lots of people to blame but maybe involving the stakeholders could help.
