Oxbow6 Posted December 2 Posted December 2 Honest question......what juice does a Fruechte HC hire bring to the UND fan base? Especially the casual fan? Quote
planet2county Posted December 2 Posted December 2 You need someone to keep operations including recruitment going until decision is announced. Happens all the time. 2 Quote

Imagine hiring Schmidt/Baldwin/Whomever then saying guess what, "we picked the OC for you". Different sport and different time, but when Rich Glas left, his primary assistant Randall Herbst was named interim head coach, and was ultimately named a finalist before UND eventually hired Brian Jones, so who knows? My guess is that the feeling was that Freuchte was best equipped to try hold together the recruiting class/minimize player exodus until a permanent coach is hired, which hopefully happens next week. 1 Quote

Because hiring Fruechte and coming to conclusion this soon would not exactly be a national search and hire. I am just as surprised by this "interim" twist as anyone. If Fruechte was/is to be HC whether interim or not why hold it for a few days? Chaves winging it or playing chess vrs Deep Blue? The other scenario is thanks for playing interim HC prior to the new HC firing you.....seems odd. 1 Quote

SiouxFan100 Posted December 2 Posted December 2 I don’t know if you would consider Fruechte to be an insider Quote

gfhockey Posted December 2 Posted December 2 The playas are comfortable with him. They don’t want an outside back Quote

sioux24/7 Posted December 2 Posted December 2 6 minutes ago, SiouxFan100 said: I don’t know if you would consider Fruechte to be an insider Yeah he’s got a bit of an outside prospective but if a year ago Bubba stepped down and we opted to hire Winona State’s OC, how would you have felt? I like Fruechte a lot. Think he could be really good, but it doesn’t get the juices going as @Oxbow6 was asking. If he ultimately is the guy, he better clean house. Besides maybe Olson and Kirkwood. SiouxFan100 Posted December 2 Posted December 2 My uneducated guess is that Fruechte is a true interim and there will be a national search for the permanent head coach but I know nothing 1 Quote
F'n Hawks Posted December 2 Author Posted December 2 Does Fruechte have the connections to replace the current defensive staff? If for whatever reason the interim tag is removed and he is the guy his first decision needs to be to clean house on that side. Quote

The interim tag made sense to me given there’s two gigantic dates looming. I’ll also assume the new HC would want some carryover from the old staff. Fruechte would appear to be best bet. He’s one I’d hope they keep him on as OC. Johanes x Freuchte Schmidt x Freuchte Hope it’s the first, but happy with either. Quote
