Would health care improve, get worse or stay the same? Maybe Mayo? Already have the records agreement and Mayo could use another satellite location as Rochester is being more difficult to get into as a patient. Plus the UND Med School affiliation would be a nice perk. Quote

Oxbow6 Posted December 15, 2019 Posted December 15, 2019 Anyone that works in the trenches in actually providing the care in today's industry knows it's a less than perfect system........all insurance payers want to continually reimbursement less for services provided, patients continually want less personal accountability for their own well being and healthcare administrators are happy to continually add more non-revenue producing layers of the onion at ridiculous salary costs. yzerman19 Posted December 15, 2019 Posted December 15, 2019 Be careful what you wish for. Altru could easily sell...once you do that though you lose local autonomy. Decisions would not be focused on grand forks interests. Which in theory senior management would be considering and the board would be reinforcing. Quote

The Sicatoka Posted December 16, 2019 Author Posted December 16, 2019 I guess I'd rather have a 5 story facility at 95% full than a 7 story at 65% full. I'm thinking the economics works out better. Being the first member of the Mayo Clinic Care Network, I wish they'd get the Mayo name more prominent around the facilities. Quote

SiouxVolley Posted December 18, 2019 Posted December 18, 2019 The nursing care at Altru is exceptional. The doctors staff is missing some good specialists. But scheduling is so important and Altru missed a surgery window by hours and my father spend many months in Rehab likely because of it. Surgery is risky everywhere though and too many patients look as it as a panacea. Personally, couldn’t find any good doctors to treat me in the entire Southeast, until I went to an alternative practice. Quote
bincitysioux Posted December 18, 2019 Posted December 18, 2019 I don't really have anything bad to say about either Altru or Sanford, and I or my family have been referred to both about equally over the years. I live 100 miles away from both and whenever one of us gets "sent on", our primary doctor basically asks what city we prefer, Grand Forks or Fargo. I have been very pleased with the care that Altru provided to my children over the years. tnt had a good analogy with the restaurant comparison. Quote
Redneksioux Posted December 18, 2019 Posted December 18, 2019 It’s still laughable that altru could be chosen to be the best hospital in the state when they offer a fraction of the services available at Sanford. Quote

Kab Posted December 19, 2019 Posted December 19, 2019 Reading this board people complain when a business closes now they are complaining because a business is building new every hospital has its share of problems but be without one and see what happens to your city 1 Quote
The Sicatoka Posted December 19, 2019 Author Posted December 19, 2019 Having seen first hand how Sanford treats staff and volunteers I won't walk into a Sanford facility. And I hear their staff timing metrics are something else. Quote
The Sicatoka Posted December 19, 2019 Author Posted December 19, 2019 Best part of Altru? Access to Mayo. 1 Quote

Seriously though I appreciate that Altru can keep some patients local. But many patients are too complex for Altru, they just don’t have the specialists and thankfully they usually accept the fact that they can’t be something that they aren’t, usually! And my gripe about their food is 100% real. Anyone that’s spent some time as inpatient knows that altru’s food is horrid. Go check out Sanford and their 3 different cafe options, not so horrible they need to hide them in the basement. For most people that reason alone is enough. Personally I’ve had good and bad experiences with altru and will use them for as much as possible. Unfortunately that equals less than half of my family’s care because they don’t have the appropriate resources. So it’s my opinion US World report should really take back their best hospital in ND award. Quote
