This is how the conference WANTS to treat UND, but the 'Hawks need to make the conference HAVE to respect them. Leave no doubt and beat up the Big Sky Conference with the physical-type of football Bubba is promoting. 2016 is shaping up to be the perfect stage for UND to do just that; leave no doubt and beat up on the BSC teams.

Except SUU won the conference and they didn't get one game on Root. Root is in love with the Montana's and there is nothing UND can do about it. We could go undefeated for the year and still get left out. The only stations that care about UND is Fox College Sports, Midco Sports Net and WDAZ, and if Idaho rejoins the Big Sky thats another team that will be on Root before us.

Root Sports is limited to the  Seattle, Denver and Pittsburgh regions, so it wants games with local teams in those regions.

Therefore, Montana, MSU, and EWU get heavy play.  SUU, NAU, Weber, Sac St, Cal Poly, ISU, and UND aren't much interest to Root.  We need to get football on Fox Sports North to get wider coverage.

Very much so agree. The Twin Cities are a HUGE recruiting footprint for UND; having FSN coverage would be a very good promotional tool and recruiting tool.

Having games on both FCS and FSN would be great.

Have to be good consistently; SUU went from bottom-feeder to first last season (3-5 in 2014 to 7-1 in 2015). Will SUU be able to keep their program on top after a coaching change and the loss of key contributors? Doubtful. Bubba and UND have this same task ahead of them (3-5 in 2014 to 5-3 in 2015); they improved from 2014 to 2015, and 2016 is the time to keep moving forward considering the returning pieces and direction of the program.

Funny how Fullerton said Root Sports is getting branded not only regionally but nationally, not in this part of the country without UND, but I am sure people will tune in to see Idaho State. Can our games be broadcasted on other networks if its not on Root?

Trivia questions: What regional sports channel is shown on the cable systems in places like Missoula, MT, Bozeman, MT, Cheney, WA and Spokane, WA? What colleges are located in Missoula, MT, Bozeman, MT, and Cheney, WA (located just down the road from Spokane, WA)? What college football teams would be most popular to be shown on regional sports channels in Missoula, MT, Bozeman, MT and Cheney, WA? What 2 regional sports channels are shown on the cable system in Grand Forks, ND? Is either of these regional sports channels the same as the one regional sports channel shown in Montana and Eastern Washington?

This isn't rocket science, people. Root Sports showing Montana, Montana State, and Eastern Washington is like Midco Sports showing the University of North Dakota or South Dakota State. Montana, Montana State and Eastern Washington are popular teams in the territory that Root Sports covers. The Idaho schools are also part of the territory, but not as popular. It's just like Fox Sports North covering the University of Minnesota, the Wild and the Timberwolves. Fox Sports North isn't going to cover Nebraska Omaha. Any other games that Root sports cover are fill. Do you think that Midco would get a lot of viewers if they were showing Idaho versus Idaho State? Root is going to broadcast the games that are going to get viewers in their main coverage area. UND isn't in their main coverage area, so the only way they get on Root is if they are playing one of the teams that benefit Root.

You all may have already read this in the Notes from Day 11 Spring practice....but it does sound like Oliveira wasn't at full strength entering camp.  Which that does surprise me a little since it sounded like he may have been available if we ended up making the playoffs.  Here is what Bubba said.........

"Plus, Brady is coming back and getting healthier. It was really important for him to practice this spring. He was limited early, but he is now able to take some good quality reps."

I believe this is the last season of the ROOT Sports contract.  The thing that irritates me about the deal is that they were originally supposed to cover men's basketball games too, up to 12 games per year, plus the conference tournament semis.  Would be nice to have a TV partner that would cover the basketball tourney.

I've been missing bone crushing hits on KO coverage. Dano was the best at it in a long time.

I like the hits that gets the crowd and team hype.  As long as we are on the giving side of the equation.  The game today is played kinder and gentler. I miss the decleater hits. But kids would get tossed from the game today.

Just a nice way to kickoff our first home game of the season vs USD...the Potato Bowl Parade is slated to take the same route as last year down University Ave towards the campus. My kids loved that route compared to downtown and with early buzz it should be a huge hit along with a lot of people at the Alerus for the game. I can't wait to get this season started!!

Hearing that a player got busted again for drugs

Whether if it's true or not it's going to be a LONG summer!!  These high expectations seem to be hit with some kind of negativity.  Hope it's not true and hope all our guys meet the requirements that the university set forth and lastly hope all the guys come back to prove the naysayers wrong!

For those of you who may have forgotten, UND was playing exceptional football to end the 2015 regular season. This is of course disappointing in that the FCS playoff selection committee screwed up and left UND out of the field; nevertheless, UND has a SIGNIFICANT number of returners for 2016 and an easier schedule. 2016 will be a fun one!

Here's the highlights from last season's final game when the Fighting Hawks were playing really good football:
