Where was it stated they were contacted by a D1 conference?

A school needs to have an offer from a DI conference to move up now.  Completely different circumstances than NDSU and Chapman.  A school can make all kinds of preparations for DI, but only a prospective offer can make it happen.

So you're speculating that MSU-Mankato is going to sue the NCAA for the right to move up?

My point is that any serious DI talk has to come with a conference offer.  The Horizon and MVFC would not even talk to Mankato.  That leaves one conference.  Logic must have been a topic you missed.

4-18? Not following. How is asking the time frame predictable? UND has only played one Summit team this year MBB and couldn't put the game away. Not sure how one game in one sport proves whatever point you were working on trying to prove.

Because I knew you were going to ask.  But thats beside the point.  The point is Its weird to have someone say that the Summit is trash as SV said when you have a losing record against that conference. Just saying. Now I know SV was trolling but I couldnt help myself.:silly:

And then you didn't answer. So we'll go with the current year. UND's 0-1 record comprising of a two point loss in one of 17 sports really defends your position. Just saying.

Now Im going to have to look it up. Damn.:)  Ok here we go---- 4-18 against "Slummit" teams since moving to DI, and 1-10 since joining the mighty big sky.

So are we talking current Slummit teams or all Slummit teams since we have moved up because that revolving door has been spinning like crazy since we moved up in 2008, if it's the latter than we have more than 4 wins.

It's difficult to believe until you see it with your own eyes.  Men's Basketball @ UND has not done well against Slummit teams in DI.  This should probably be discussed in a different thread, and like others have said, it is one sport in the Slummit.

And making sure to include the 5 years UND was a transitional school playing against full D-1 schools. Still not sure how this proves any sort of point other than SiouxVolley sure knows how to get the FargoU fans going. Everyone already knows that UND has struggled in OOC play in MBB, that is no shocker, but now we know that somehow that is the benchmark for the Summit schools.

Yes but schools will periodically review that status. As I said in the initial post the rumor going around is that MNSU is investigating the possibility of moving to DI, they have to make sure it would be possible for them to afford to do that. They just recently had a major reno done to the their hockey arena, their basketball arena is relatively new and quite good, and now a reno of the outdoor facilities and replacement of the football stadium is rumored to on the table. So they may decide to stay D2 and be done with it or they might start trying to attract a D1 conference. Your right they need an offer but your also treating these conferences like they are some sort of ultra elite gentleman's club, which they are not, they're businesses. They want to see a reasonable rate of return for their investment, so MNSU would need to prove it has the facilities, fanbase, and its athletic teams would need to continue to preform at the top of D2 play in most of their sports, especially football and basketball. If you have good product and venu then MVFC and Summit or other leagues would take a look, maybe even BigSky - though I doubt MNSU would want the BigSky as travel costs would be high with the exception of North Dakota, though in-terms of national exposure BigSky would be the better choice. At this point though its still up in the air and we'll just have to wait and see if anything acutally comes of it.

Personally, I think Minnesota is sorely in need of 2nd D1 institution both athletically and academically, out of all the public institutions in the state Mankato is probably the best one to make that transition (and keep football). Southern Minnesota is a good market for an FCS team, If Minnesota State gets a new stadium that is at 10,000 capacity or higher I think its a safe bet that they are going to try to move to D1, if their is just a renovation of the old stadium or new but under 10,000 stadium i think its safe to say that they plan on staying D2 for the foreseeable future.

Who knows maybe the Vikings will chip in to help fund a new Stadium.

Seems like solid logic at face value.

Until you remember that The Summit/MVFC failed to do what was in their best interests and self-preservation of their league long-term with a school about 70 miles north of 94 on I-29 when the opportunity presented itself.  Instead of being proactive, they have shown a history of reactive leadership style.  Ask Summit baseball. Close call there.

So now, from a business standpoint, your once logical comment has lost its sensibility relative to what is being discussed here regarding Mankato.  We will see if anything has changed.

Huh? The Summit did not ignore that school 70 miles to the north. In fact, that school cancelled a site visit by Summit officials that very likely would have resulted in a bid. Obviously, the MVFC did snub that northern school, but, IIRC, there was the issue of NCAA sanctions at the time.

Vince was referring to the snub of UND baseball when the summit was in need of a team to maintain autobids.
