GreenWing Posted December 14, 2014 Posted December 14, 2014 Very happy with the results of the first half of the season. Main reason being a quiet "fire hak" thread. This team is playing well but they can reach a higher gear. I love the leadership we have and look forward to an even better second half of the season. Quote
geaux_sioux Posted December 14, 2014 Posted December 14, 2014 This team leaves a lot to desire so far. Not as good as Frattins senior team at all but still a load of potential. A championship should be expected from this bunch if they reach anywhere near their potential. 3 Quote

We're 13-4-2 and all knows that we haven't hit our peak yet. Here's hoping for a special second half!!!!! Â Injuries to Drake, Mark, Stecher, OD, Chyz, St. Clair and Nick Schmaltz.... and we're 13-4-2. Â Lots to be excited about. Quote
Oxbow6 Posted December 14, 2014 Posted December 14, 2014 1st half team thoughts: MVP: Stecher. Hasn't been a game all season when I haven't said to myself "This kid is really really good". Arguably our best Dman and is a beast on the PK. Most improved: Chyzyk. Has turned himself into a solid top 6 guy. Best newcomer: Poolman. Guy is flat out a hockey player. A guy UND can't lose for any bit of time: Zane. Circa 12/5 w Cam. Should be producing more: LJ. Was expecting a big jump from him to his So. year. My face is in a milk carton: Murphy. No goals in his career to date. 'Nuf said. Guy who could carry UND to #8: 2 actually. Zane. "Hot goalie" minus frequent softie. Jordan. Uber talent to be the best player on the ice every game. Best first half start under Hak. This season will come down to 4 games...2 home games at Scheels Arena in West Regional then 2 at F4. Can UND put together a 4 game winning streak when it matters? Simple question 3 Quote
sprig Posted December 14, 2014 Posted December 14, 2014 Get Stecher back, team is not the same without him Quote
SiouxForever Posted December 14, 2014 Posted December 14, 2014 We are winning and finding ways to win. Improvements for the next half. Face offs Breakouts. We have horrible no flow breakouts where our guys are standing flat footed. Could be because we are banged up at the moment, but need improvement. Denver broke out the puck real nice. Mimic them. Small passes and plays. Totally need to improve on this area all over the rink. Friday nigiht against Miami, the guys did this well and probably played their best game of the year. Forecheck and sustain possession. Can't generate offense when you don't have the puck. Board play. Strength. Need to improve on strong sticks and battles up and down the ice. We can be an easy team to play against. We are fast, though. Seen almost every game this year and think our best game was Friday night against Miami. Our squad still hasn't played that well imo. However, it is only December. Go Sioux! Quote

For me, the Fire Hak issue has never been about first halves of the season. It's about the the final game of the season. Yes it's nice to do well now but this is UND hockey. We don't define success on halves of the season. 2 Quote
808287 Posted December 14, 2014 Posted December 14, 2014 I'm obviously pleased with the win/loss record in the first half. Â A "traditional" Hakstol second-half record would set this team up well for a #1 seed heading into Fargo/Scheels. Â Friday night record is a concern with me. Â In a one-and-done tourney you have to win on Friday night every game. Â Show up prepared and dictate the play for sixty minutes. Â Â IF this team can figure out that every game is a potential loss to Air Force or Lake Superior State, and they play with the domination they have late in those two games, they will be lights-out in late season play. Â Â In Zane we trust. Quote
SiouxScore Posted December 14, 2014 Posted December 14, 2014 Solid first half and we have seen glimpses of how dominant this team can be at times even against good teams like the Friday night Providence game. Biggest key to me is for the guys to get healthy during this time off and stay healthy in the 2nd half and if that happens this team definitely has a decent chance to get back to the Frozen Four. gfhockey Posted December 14, 2014 Posted December 14, 2014 Maybe I'll start more threads on Friday nights Quote

siouxfaninseattle Posted December 14, 2014 Posted December 14, 2014 Nice to see a strong winning record in the first half of the year. I was surprised to see the December record of 19-1 over the last five years before the Denver series. The biggest key to keeping it going is to get and stay healthy! I would like to see the freshman line - Pogs, Olson and Simonson - together all season. They seem to have good chemistry. Zane's play will be huge - no softies please. Last night Mattson played like he has had enough of being a healthy scratch - it would be nice to see that level of play the rest of the season. J Schmaltz needs to play like he is capable of playing - for the whole game. And Drake needs to score oh, maybe 30 goals. Quote

We need to find more than one decent draw man (Mac can't take every draw). Face-offs are key to puck possession and we need much improvement. Quote
