NORTH DAKOTA vs. Providence - Saturday

Just a hockey fan, not very knowledgeable about the game details/strategy but it seems we did not include the D on our offense very much- if at all- back in the Parise/bochenski or the Toews/Oshie/Duncan eras.  This fully involved D play while on O (and yet cover D too) is what we seemed to be missing back then.

Oh, what could have been, with a D corps like this and those lines....!

Should I thank Coach Barry?

This formula seemed to work pretty well for Union last year too.

Good observation and yes berry seems to have had an impact but it's mostly because of the players he has now. All 7 d men are mobile and can make plays instead of just concentrating on the d side and not getting beat. Hak has 6 guys that can create and ausmus who is rock solid and brings physicality to the d. UND and minny have best two d cores in nation in IMO but no team will create and put up the points that UND does this season piggy backing off last years.

J schmaltz may be the best d man in the nation all around. He has room to grow which is scary and but he's the best in the new Ralph era we've seen at both ends on D

Travel safe tonight folks.  There was at least a four vehicle accident on I-29 last night after the game.  Hopefully no one was seriously injured, although at least one vehicle looked like it might have rolled.  It looked bad.

We were a few minutes behind that mess south bound. 4 vehicles involved...2 were in really really bad shape.

It was a huge part of the Gopher championship teams back in the day too.  I do think it is a result of Bubba's players and his coaching.

On a side note, what impressed me the most last night was the tenacity of the forecheck and the sticking up for each other...that is Sioux hockey.

From my view and limited mouth reading skills Hak didn't appreciate Olson pointing at the score board...but every one else in the building did!

I think tonight's game is more critical than it looked before the year because of how poorly most of the rest of the non conference opponents have performed to this point.

Correct! The NCHC has been bad in non-conference play

Murphy and Poganski in for MacMillan and St.Clair would guess St.Clair may be dealing with an injury as well.

Tonight's lines:

Pattyn-Johnson-Parks

O'Donnell-Gaarder-Murphy

Caggiula-Schmaltz-Olson

Chyzk-Simonson-Poganski

LaDue-Schmaltz

Ausmus-Stecher

Mattson-Poolman

McIntyre

Johnson

Hrynkiw

Tough luck with a couple forwards going down (if that's what happened to StClair.) But I'm hoping Murphy can take the next step in his development after being a scoring machine in Jrs. They need another night with everyone working hard on every shift.

did i hear that the cut happened on the bench too? Ughhh...surgery tells me a ligament...

I feel bad for him, guy just could never stay healthy. I'm guessing ligament damage too. 2-4 months.
