That’s fair. Let’s see what happens.

u really think that the mwc first choice is northern FCS schools when they can/could add UTEP, nmsu, tsu, UTSA......heck they would upgrade over Fresno by adding cal davis.....even sac state has a higher upside to the conference

I'm just looking at current operating budgets for athletic programs.

2023 Numbers:

FCS:

Cal Davis: $48,022,363

Sac State: $44,732,992

UND / NDSU: $33 / 32 million

Montana State / SDSU / Montana: $28-26 million

USD: $23 million

Mountain West:

Air Force / UNLV: $67 million

Utah State / Nevada / Wyoming / New Mexico: 51 to 47 million

I'm just saying from an operating standpoint, for most schools, it's going to take a heavy investment yearly to be comparable.

Cal Davis could also bring a good BB program to the MWC, Sac St might have a better chance that the dakotas

we should listen to Matt Brown, send this to your NDSU friends, much better options than the Dakotas and partially because of basketball!!!! So much for putting all your eggs in one basket!

Interesting article.....only a blip about ndac and sdac.

kinda didn't think about air force jumping to the aac to be with their military friends....especially after csu ditched em and only wyoming is kinda left for a long time rival.

funny to think that people are even saying "sac state to pac12"....but why not.....population, politics, and stadium is decent. so you would think that sac to mwc would a no brainer?

and why not hawaii to pac12 too.....just depends if the pac12 wants to stay somewhat regional or if they go west to rice and tulane and whatnot

According to the bozos over on bisonville they think Matt Brown says the Dakota states are next in line after UTEp and NMSU. Reading comprehension not the best at Ag U

haha...wonder what the ndac to MVC FULL MEMBERSHIP fanboys are thinking about today....

BUT...if the MWC is left wtih USU, Wyoming, and maybe one or 2 more schools do southern schools wanna travel to usu and laramie and reno.....at that point it's a big sky/mwc merger imo............um msu idaho.....plus dak4.....plus what's left of mwc????

im in tho!!!!!!

would it be that big of a deal for reno and lv to be in different conferences....

a new pac 12 and a new mwc depending on who they get ....i don't see a huge huge difference between the two if this is played out the way it might go

unlv in pac12 should be a no brainer..maybe even new mexico...air force to aac makes sense

that would leave reno, usu, wyomong, and sjsu...not much there/left

I think they look to UNLV and Utah St.for all sports, Hawaii for football only and zgonzaga for non football. 9 football for optimal round robin scheduling with potential extra revenue games from Hawaii rule. A very solid basketball league that is probably 6th after  the power 4 and big east.

didn't really believe the usu stuff...but it's looking that way or already is.

i think it would've taken 9 members to dissovle the mwc......so far adding these five have cost the pac 12 how many millions?

The one thing I don't think gets enough attention is enrollment of schools at the G5 level. Much easier to fund athletic departments with student fees and state funding vs private donations. Clearly more sustainable. If you look at the current Mountain West, the lowest enrollment is Hawaii at 19K and then Nevada and UNM around 21/22K.

Schools that have publicly came out as wanting membership. NMSU (21K), Sac State (32K)

Others.

UC Davis: 40K

Montana State: 17K

UND: 15K

NDSU: 12K

SDSU: 12K

Montana: 10.5K

USD: 10K

A piece of the puzzle I find interesting. A few big $ donors and that piece is covered (way easier said than done, especially when you're talking annually). No doubt most schools could "figure it out", if the only goal is just to go G5. To compete at the highest level of that division is a different story.

I'm far from anti-going FBS. Ideally, we'll stay tethered to the other Dakota schools, whenever that ends up, just wondering (I have no clue either), how many FCS schools really have the finances to compete at the highest G5 level. Another thing is it different in 2024 (NIL), then this would have been in 2015?

The enrollment number for higher FBS that I heard was 35,000 to 40,000.  That is why I say the only FCS schools really in play are Davis and Sac St.
