Do I have to share a bathroom with metrosexual option #2 if the horse can't decide if it is a he or a she? If so...option #1.

Yah no doubt!  Lets toughen up that horse a bit.  Looks like the horse on the cover of those soft porn love novels they sell in the grocery store.

I can only assume you speak from personal experience at the grocery store because I've never noticed such things. ?

I glanced over one time while looking at Popular Mechanics.

Naw, this is the one I was thinking of:

I could live with that.

Let's go Nokes!  Let's go Nokes!

Hey, nothing will ever replace Fighting Sioux, but this isn't too bad.

Just my $.02 as a member of the unofficial committee set up by the Sicatoka!

I saw a billboard in Minneapolis today for Metropolitan State University that said, "We're so Metro."  Metro State Mustangs??

Stage 6 is indifference- not giving a flying Flickertail anymore. Most will never reach this stage, but a really dumb nickname will send a few people here.

I'm in your stage 6 after seeing the A-H names that got support from the committee. I didn't think anything could make me support a rodent nickname until I saw that list.

I am absolutely nauseated to my stomach over this. Going from The Fighting Sioux to whatever the hell we will be called is a disgrace. I am not going to get over it, and I wont get over it. Growing up with it, living it, breathing it, going to school there....never, did I ONCE or anyone else i know that had gone to school there viewed The Fighting Sioux name and logo as hostile and abusive. Yet, we have to live with corrupt, white, NCAA fat-cats who think they know what's best for schools, individuals and different races of people. Had the state won that initial injunction to uncover those internal e-mails floating around the NCAA, it would have revealed a scheme conjured up by then president Brand, to make an example of pettily ole UND. The Fight Sioux to what? The Fighting Sioux to what?

Love this^^^^^^^^^!!!!!

Frustrating, but this argument is already over.Sucks, but at this time next year we will either be the University of North Dakota or have another nickname following it. All I can say is keep wearing the Fighting Sioux logo proudly. I know I will regardless.

Though if they do adopt a new nickname, the goal at this point should be to make it something that is not completely laughable.

Agree 100%

Would you rather have an ermine (mustelid) or a flickertail (rodent)?

It reminded me of the cover of the book Black Beauty. Or am i thinking of Black Booty?

What ever happened to Fighting Eagles? I think Mafia Man had a cool logo for it that looked cool...if I remember correctly?

MM and "cool" rarely come up together in the same sentence. Try again............

Glad you could not care less about anything outside of hockey, the rest of us do.  And last I checked, the identity has always been the University of North Dakota. The nicknames and logos have changed multiple times over the past century plus, the name of the school hasn't.

Also, I believe this would be a combination of stages 1 and 2 of grieving.

It's not any stage of grieving.  I grieve when God takes something from me.  I have no tolerance for thinking about the assault on our/my identity as a loss that needs to be grieved.  As I have said 100 times on this board full of a bunch of pathetic push overs, scaredy cats and plants, if the world of Sioux fans was a bunch of me's this would have never flown.  In the end we are to blame as we- by either our own lack of gumption or the allowance of toxic leadership-  effectuated every bit of nothing that was ever not done to keep our name.

Now when the chickens are coming home to roost and all of those who love this great program with this awesome identity are beginning to see what might just come from this they are now just starting to realize the horrors to come.  Flickertails yeah yeah!!

Our only hope is to as Brad wrote, to call ourselves North Dakota.  But most likely won't happen because of the vocal and manipulative minority(same people who fought to not fight for the name) will post and post and post and post on here things like:  we need a new identity, we need to get over it, those that want to keep N.D. are just manipulating to be able to still refer to us as the Sioux- yes! exactly!!, the NCAA will say no, (fear-fear-fear-comply!!!)   Ugg!! it is so pathetic!

...Grieve??  Since you like to analyze me and associate my objections to what is currently happening to stages of grieve, How bout this, piss off!!

Analyze that.  It would be stage 47 of grieve?

Oh and by the way, "names of schools" change all of the time...

Note to self: 86 Oxbow6 and family from the 2015 Christmas card list.

No, but that is beautiful... Didn't you do an eagle landing like it was going to grab a critter? Had a mean looking face with piercing talons leading the way? Call the Fighting Eagles. I thought you did that one? I do like this one also though.

Further to the point of lamenting my pathetic aging situation...

...then I see the proposed "Charging Nokota" logo and wish it all to end instantly, like I'm with Tony Soprano and his family at the diner with the once inspirational and now incredibly haunting Journey tune playing as soundtrack to my demise.  I haven't seen that much horse hair 'flow since my last Broney convention.  "Charging Nokota" is so gaddawful bad I'm beginning to think this is all an elaborate scheme by Jerry York to further inflict pain and suffering on Sioux fans beyond the usual Frozen Four trouncings.

I can't agonize enough over the list of horrific names still "under consideration."  Drillers?  Energy?  Arctic Blaze?  That last one just doesn't even make any sense.  And, of course there's the cunning subtlety of Bison Slayers.  Too clever by one one-hundredth.  Yes, I get it, the Fighting Sioux were Bison Slayers.  Genius.  It's just so bad it's good; that sort of thing.  And... honestly I can hardly type this...  "Aurora"???  Wha.  Tha.  Fa?  We can all dress in creepy 70's tie dye and cue up the 5th Dimension on the quadraphonic.

Let's bring it back to base camp fellow explorers...  There's no other option than just "North Dakota."  You know it.  I know it.  We know it.  It's the only way to avoid a complete unhealthy backlash from all of the hearty, God-fearing, gun-toting, red-state, tough-as-nails, ruggedly individualistic and fantastically awesome members of Fighting Sioux nation who, despite their vast numbers in the majority, have no time or inclination to post their whimsical BS on this web site.

Hypothetically speaking:

If, let's say, Force or Force of the North makes the final list.

Does that mean the University knew what name they wanted the whole time and made sure to do what they could to make it happen.

Or its easy to condition people to like something new after advertising and showing them it enough times.

Force of the North is second on the online herald poll behind Blackhawks. But it wouldnt be there if the University hadn't "sold" it to the general public. But now that general public seems to "like it."

If second theory is correct, shouldn't be hard for the general public to start liking a new nickname is a relatively pretty fast time frame.

Blackhawks 22.78%  (557 votes)

Force of the North 18.2%  (445 votes)

Cavalry 12.68%  (310 votes)

Flickertails 11.62%  (284 votes)

"The Force" had six committee members give a thumbs up to the nickname.
Second place, Big Green and Flame, only got 4.

Average these two things and Force is UND's new nickname. (I realize they have only went through less than half the list).

The University did a great job of marketing.

Those aren't votes, they were the number of suggestions.  The numbers are meaningless at this stage.  A name with a single suggestion could end up being the one chosen in the end.
