I'm not too upset that we were trying to push the envelope.  Better be on our best behavior now since we are under probation.

First sentence - I agree. We desperately need to be pushing the envelope.

Second sentence - this is the unfortunate fallout of the UND institutional fail.

I get the feeling these recruiting violations are happening all over the place at other schools, but they are not self reporting.  Oh well.  I'm not too upset that we were trying to push the envelope.  Better be on our best behavior now since we are under probation.

Double secret probation?

This is one way to look at it but I don’t agree with it in its entirety.

This issue is a matter of perspective, and how UND and UND athletics views football is still an ongoing issue.

it can improve with new leadership, which UND needs. Thank you Bill Chaves for your efforts, but nothing lasts forever; time to move on to the next step so UND athletics can take the next step COMPETITIVELY compared to other programs

Having your compliance department knowingly ignore violations, especially when there are external factors that you can't control, is not a characteristic any of the leadership at UND is going to tolerate. Just my opinion from interactions I've had with people in those positions though. Again, I think this is a non-issue if the transcripts never get in front of the compliance department. But they did and here we are.

However, based on today's ruling on Texas Tech's QB, you could probably just sue the NCAA and get everything waived, but that speaks more to what kind of mess things have turned into than anything.

Last week ndsu made headlines for being featured in the new NCAA Football video game trailer. UND made headlines for self-reporting a minor tampering violation. UND can’t help itself from being a joke

You mean the Forum wrote a headline about them being in a video game?  Definitely worth the 17.5 million.

No it was talked about quite a bit in that community. Missouri State made more than 100k last year by being  in the game. ndsu will be much more popular than them. Being in the video game may cover that cost someday!!

In what community?

If 10-20 other FCS schools (plus nearly all the FBS schools) are doing the same thing BUT not reporting it, then is UND compliance / athletics exceptionally candid or exceptionally stupid (or both)? Can you confidently state other schools’ compliance departments are not reporting these type of “accidents”? Based on the numbers, it’s fair to say other schools’ compliance departments are in fact quite mute on this (contacting players not yet in the transfer portal).

I won’t overlook the role the coach had, though, to your point. If the transcripts don’t reach compliance then this is almost  certainly a non-issue.

UND compliance has historically been exceptional in “rule following”, I’m told, but it is also probably not a coincidence that UND’s “wonderfully compliant” athletic department could be much better (in terms of $ and wins ) with new leadership.

I grew up on the sidelines at Memorial Stadium. Hockey is my true love, but there was something special about the game of football, at that time. Open air exuberance! I miss the competence of this program. Where’s the pride.
