Wildfan Posted 16 hours ago Posted 16 hours ago After seeing even more complaining about how East Coast teams had to travel to SF and attendance would've been much better out East I came across the 2023 Bridgeport Regional where Quinnipiac played against Merrimack. Qunnipiac is 25 miles from Bridgeport, and Merrimack is 166 miles. So 30 min and 2.5 hour drive and their attendance for that game was 4,462. Well actually that same attendance number was used for both first round games with the other being Ohio State vs Harvard. So add in Harvard at 149 miles and they drew less for attendance then Sioux Falls did only 1 team considered drive-able distance at 319 miles and over 4 hours. 2 Quote
nodak651 Posted 14 hours ago Posted 14 hours ago Are there busses running from gf or fargo down to Sioux Falls? If not, perhaps und or the champions club ahould. Could be a perk for membership. And non members can go with a fee. Could also be a discoumt or a perk to attract new members. 4 Quote

Oxbow6 Posted 10 hours ago Posted 10 hours ago I know they didn't get much ice time, but Littler and Klee were really good out there when they got their chances. Hot goalies win Cups and Nattys. Lastly, bring in someone today from the F-M or Sioux Falls Curling Club to get the ice respectable by 600 pm Saturday. Whoever is currently in charge of the ice needs to consider a new career path. 90siouxfan Posted 10 hours ago Posted 10 hours ago I am pleased with the win. Performance was less than the mandatory world beater effort that a Sioux fan is required to express. Thought (hoped) I would hear Kernan's name more. Bad ice.... is that something to prepare for? Speed kills. Bad ice cancels. Quote
I Ranger Posted 9 hours ago Posted 9 hours ago As has been mentioned multiple times, the ice was horrendous! Anyone who thinks this didn't play a factor as it's a great equalizer for the lesser skilled team is crazy. Even the simplest plays/passes were difficult all game. The age old complaint of regionals playing on garbage ice for the most important games of the year but at least it's a neutral site! Ridiculous! 4 Quote
cberkas Posted 9 hours ago Posted 9 hours ago UND looked like they were playing with the pressure to not lose and Merrimack was playing like it was another game. The guys need to calm down take a deep breath and play like it’s another game. Get the puck on net, pucks on net lead to scoring chances, scoring chances lead to goals. The one thing that has just irritated me since Hak/2016 is always picking corners and not getting pucks on net to get a rebound or a tips. There were chances in front of the net all night if 1. someone would shoot and 2. someone would stop in the slot/top of the crease. Against Q use the lively boards, those back door options were there once the passes were took away. Swanson, I swear when he shoots the puck usually goes in. I’d like to see him take the puck behind the net and make a pass out front on the PP. Teams know he’s pass first, shoot or move using the net as a decoy to give options for passes bs passing off the half boards every time. Quote
JakeLove Posted 9 hours ago Posted 9 hours ago 8 hours ago, burd said: Thks. Not first skater to the end line. Probably a safety measure? The current icing rule is called the “modified touch icing”. That helps visualize the rule. icing is a player race to the puck, not a race to a spot. The linesman decides which player would get to the puck first no earlier than when the closest player to the puck reaches the top of face off circles and no later than when the closest player reaches face off dots. On very rare occasions when it is close the linesman can wait an instant longer so long as safety of the player who would reach the puck first. if the icing team would reach the puck first, play continues. if the non-icing team would reach the puck first, play is terminated. icing (or not) is not decided by a player race to a slot on the ice. The spot on the ice is only used by the linesman as a trigger for when they have to decide which player would reach the puck first is not compromised. 1 Quote

SCSU had a bunch of speedsters on that team and on paper should have won fairly easily. The ice conditions negated that speed and AIC won a very boring game. I thought for sure after that debacle Scheels would never host one again it was that bad 2 Quote
gfhockey Posted 9 hours ago Posted 9 hours ago Merrimack should have had that one goal if you take off the green glasses Quote

90siouxfan Posted 8 hours ago Posted 8 hours ago Why is regional ice so bad? Are these rinks just incompetent? Is it the logo changes on the ice? Quote
108498 Posted 8 hours ago Posted 8 hours ago I am pretty confused. I have seen several different brackets and I am trying to figure out wjat region UND's opponett qpuld come from if they male rhe frozen four. Quote

In it he talks about having to beat the "third team," and how they were really hoping for a power play, but I guess that doesn't happen "out west." He then remembered that they got one, and said "thanks for that, I guess." I'm guessing Jax doesn't reveal what was said, because it's probably not going to be too flattering to another coach. https://www.themackreport.com/p/postgame-press-conference-following Quote

Wilbur Posted 8 hours ago Posted 8 hours ago Today should be an excellent catch up day for the rink as they'll only have the two teams practicing for maybe an hour each, and other than that they can focus on getting their surface temp to a decent spot. Only one game tomorrow should make for a more playable surface. Its getting to the point with some of these places where if you're the second game you're screwed. 1 1 Quote

They don’t take this ice out completely and it being a USHL building with all the ads in the ice. They have to repaint it and put in the logo (every timelapse I’ve seen of this they repaint then put in the logos). Do the switch 3 weeks before instead of a week. Quote

I mean the Zmolek penalty was a joke in itself, but whatever. One of the things we did a good job of was not going for big hits and keeping the reaching to a minimum. I feel they got a bit screwed on the no goal call, but then its 3-1 or 2-1. It won't be the last time an officials whistle costs a team a goal. These eastern teams will always whine about coming out west. All the while Denver ends up east every time the state of Colorado doesn't host a regional and they are fine. 1 Quote
