When they're going, which we've only seen glimpses of so far, I think they're better than the last few years. Even when Blake was here, he was amazing, but the whole team couldn't seem to put it together. Shorter: this team has a high ceiling. The depth is there. The concerning part is I don’t know if one of the top two lines has been the best line in any game so far. I’m assuming chemistry will come at some point. They need to tone down the aggressiveness from the dmen a bit. It’s leading to too many odd many rushes and chances against. The top lines scoring should allow the dmen to back off a bit and not force things offensively. Quote
UND69er Posted yesterday at 03:19 AM Posted yesterday at 03:19 AM Same crap different day/year etc. Liv puts on his Orr hat and Homer leaves rebounds galore. And we pay this coaching staff how much? Still don't know how good or bad either team is, but it's a long season. 1 Quote

We need a ladder to climb out of the basement then - bonehead plays kill us again. Remember when we talked about getting back to Fighting Sioux hockey - and where is the vaunted defense - our All American is playing like he's the only player on the ice - again. I expected better from us. 2 Quote

It is frustrating but expected. The reality is no one was sure how this team would be out of the gate and it is going to take some time. I'm really hopeful that no matter how good this team ends up actually being that they can be gritty and take on an identity where any matchup could result in a win. They need to shore up mistakes and get their feet moving from what I can see. The rest will come with their inherent talent. The frustrating part, as Wilbur pointed out, is that the losses to both Minnesota schools were in large part due to upperclassmen being undisciplined and making mistakes. 7 Quote

I haven't had a lot of chances to watch yet this year but your assessment seems to be true from I've seen. It's a bit discombobulated right now. Honestly it looks better than last year to me but I'm noticing some of the dumb lazy plays that stood out to me over the past couple years. No look drop passes, standing around, getting beat to pick on the boards...etc. Quote

That might be part of the learning process, as we have gone from a system of lockdown and defense first to a more aggressive mindset. Just need to make sure we are more situationally sound and know when to live for another offensive chance without allowing outnumbered situations going the other way, especially against the Plante line. 1 Quote

All they have to do is shut the Plante line down. The hard part is shutting the Plante line down. UMD will only go as far as that one line takes them. Which usually when sande has a line like that it ends up in a natty not a nose bleed Quote
InHeavenThereIsNoBeer Posted yesterday at 03:58 AM Posted yesterday at 03:58 AM Frustrating game but UND outplayed UMD for large stretches of it, it’s concerning that the high end talent isn’t burying their chances. However, this team plays hard. I don’t think there’s a chance in hell last years team makes that comeback. If we can get rid of some of the immature plays this team can be extremely hard to play against. All that being said, tomorrow will tell us a lot about how much they’ve grown 2 Quote

Start Spunar. Tell the dmen to defend. Tell the forwards to shoot when given a chance. I’m still trying to figure out how we managed to not get a shot off on a two on none. 3 6 Quote

siouxfaninseattle Posted yesterday at 04:04 AM Posted yesterday at 04:04 AM That was a very winnable game. Some poor play at inopportune times and some bad puck luck decided the game. Control their top line and it's a win. 1 Quote

That was mind boggling, I was sitting at the end of the ice and it felt as though time stood still. Thankfully Strinden redeemed himself in a big way with the tying goal Quote

Popular Post Wilbur Posted 14 hours ago Popular Post Posted 14 hours ago Watched game highlights and of course every goal Duluth scored was due to a mistake on our end. Goal 1: I get you want to outnumber teams on the power play, but we handed them a 2-1 with four guys low in the corner all on the wall playing below the puck. Goal 2: Turnover, and then a great film moment about compete and backchecking. If you coach a youth team show that clip to them. What not to do with tracking guys coming back. Goal 3: James takes a roughing the passer penalty at their blue line, and Shaugabay and the Plante's do the rest on the PP. Goal 4: Liv playing noon ball at the ymca....2-1...game. Hanson standing front and center, and nobody touched him. We were also super lucky to get to OT after we threw the puck away in our zone with under ten seconds left. The fire Jax thread may have started if we didn't get that one to OT.... 6 Quote

Hoping for a better result as we will be heading up to GF shortly for the game tonight Quote
scpa0305 Posted 13 hours ago Posted 13 hours ago Really tough loss after coming back. 4 can’t be so careless with the puck. I’m noticing a trend there with him this year. Our top F’s need way more consistency. Lines need to change or something. 1 Quote

Honestly would’ve been tougher without that push to get to OT, I’m a bit of an outlier at the Ralph as I don’t get too excited win or lose in OT and shootout. I know it matters to an extent nationally and league points but it’s not a real test of what we’ll face at any point in the postseason. And that’s the end goal Quote
Oxbow6 Posted 13 hours ago Posted 13 hours ago Chemistry comes with consistency. Who are your 3 best forwards? First line. Who are your next 3 best? 2nd line. Same stuff now for a decade plus with this program. Look at last night....basically 3 guys got a W. Quote
1972 Posted 13 hours ago Posted 13 hours ago Liv has been absolute trash this year...just don't get how you forget to play defense. Somebody tell him he is not Gaber, Blake, Parise, Towes, ect. KNOW YOUR ROLE! 2 Quote
90siouxfan Posted 12 hours ago Posted 12 hours ago I suspect there is a trade off between offensive creativity and defensive responsibility that players are dealing with.... hopefully it's a learning curve and the pendulum finds the happy rhythm. 2 Quote
